Evidence of Possible Recharge Zones for Lake Salda (Turkey)

open access: yesJournal of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing, 2018
This study explores the evidence of recharge locations using hydrogeochemical and physicochemical measurements in an alkaline lake, Lake Salda, in Burdur, Turkey. In-situ measurements have been performed using a conductivity–temperature–depth device to map the physicochemical dynamic of the lake. Water and sediment samples were collected on the surface

Assessment of water quality and hydrogeochemical processes of Salda alkaline lake (Burdur, Turkey)

open access: yesEnvironmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2019
Salda Lake is one of the rare alkaline lakes in the world. In this study, the major and trace element contents of the Salda Lake water were analysed in two periods. Lake water samples were taken at the surface, at 10 m and 20 m depths. The pH and EC values of the lake water varied from 9.08 to 9.34 and from 1690 to 2124 μS/cm, respectively.

Morphological and Microbial Diversity of Hydromagnesite Microbialites in Lake Salda: A Mars Analog Alkaline Lake

open access: yesGeobiology
ABSTRACTLake Salda, a terrestrial analog for the paleolake in Jezero Crater on Mars, hosts active, subfossil, and fossil hydromagnesite microbialites, making it an ideal location to study microbialite formation and subsequent processes. Our understanding of this record is still limited by an incomplete knowledge of the macro‐ and mesoscale morphotypes ...

Morphospace, composition and texture of Lake Salda microbialites

2022
<p>The discovery of hydrated magnesium carbonates in a paleolake in Jezero Crater, Mars, has inspired the study of carbonates associated with lacustrine systems on Earth. Lake Salda, Turkey, contains hydromagnesite-dominated microbialites in a mafic-rock hosted terrain.

On the limnology of Salda Lake, a large and deep soda lake in southwestern Turkey: future management proposals

Aquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, 2004
Abstract The limnological characteristics of Salda Lake, a deep, soda and highly alkaline lake in the Lake District of southwestern Turkey, are presented. Physical and chemical variables indicate that the lake is composed of hydrochemically different water layers formed by groundwater sources located on the floor of the lake.

Biotic and Abiotic Imprints on Mg-Rich Stromatolites: Lessons from Lake Salda, SW Turkey

open access: yesGeomicrobiology Journal, 2020
Modern hydrated Mg rich stromatolites are actively growing along the shallow shorelines of Lake Salda (SW Turkey). An integrated approach involving isotopic, mineralogical, microscopic, and organic/geochemical techniques along with culture-independent molecular methods were applied to various lake samples to assess the role of microbial processes on ...
