Salicylate and aminotransferases

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, 1965
Abstract Enzymic transfer of the amino-group of each of 20 amino-acids to α-oxoglutarate has been studied using lyophilised extracts of rat heart, liver, brain, kidney and skeletal muscle as enzyme source. The glutamate produced was estimated from the carbon dioxide liberated by a bacterial decarboxylase in an autoanalyser.

Deciphering Role of Endophytes in Plant Defences and Biotic Stress Resilience Across Families

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant families generate distinct repertoires of specialised metabolites that govern their biotic interactions. Endophytes strengthen host plant defence mechanisms and tolerance to biotic challenges by upregulating metabolite biosynthesis, modifying precursor compounds into more potent forms, or by directly synthesising analogous defence ...

Tripartite Interaction Between Penicillium pinophilum‐Host Plants and CMV‐Y: A Model for Endophyte‐Mediated Viral Biocontrol

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Plant‐fungus‐virus tripartite interactions represent complex ecological systems in which mutualistic endophytes can influence host physiology, yet the molecular basis of endophyte‐mediated defence remains poorly understood. Here, we demonstrate that the endophytic fungus Penicillium pinophilum EU0013 suppresses the yellow strain of cucumber ...

Advances in organic UV filters for sunscreens over the past decade

open access: yesPhotochemistry and Photobiology, EarlyView.
Highlighted organic UV filter frameworks that have been described for sunscreens over the past decade divided into three groups: derivatives of or inspired by approved organic UV filters, natural product‐based compounds, and miscellaneous. Abstract Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a major environmental factor in photoaging, erythema, and skin cancer ...

Glyphosate residues in soil alter herbivore‐induced plant volatiles and affect predatory insect behaviour

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Herbicide residues in soil disrupt plant–insect signalling, reducing the effectiveness of biological pest control. Abstract Plants under herbivore attack emit distinct blends of herbivore‐induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) which serve as signalling cues for predatory insects.

Hemorrhagic Shock as a Sequela of Splenic Rupture in a Patient with Infectious Mononucleosis: Focus on the Potential Role of Salicylates

open access: yesCase Reports in Medicine, 2012
Despite the fact that the vast majority of splenic ruptures are traumatic, infectious mononucleosis has been incriminated as a major predisposing factor that affects the integrity of the spleen, thus causing atraumatic ruptures and life-threatening ...

Aspirin Resistance and Its Importance

open access: yesActa Medica Indonesiana, 2016
The use of salicylates (popularly known as aspirin or ASA) is well established for the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease. However, there are reportedly a numer of patients who suffered repeat cardiovascular events despite being given aspirin

Worm frass phytohormones from plastic waste

open access: yesPlant Hormones
Certain insect larvae can biodegrade plastic into frass (excrement) that functions as a biofertilizer. We found that yellow mealworms and superworms fed on polystyrene or polyethylene produced frass enriched in all four major classes of plant hormones, i.

Chemical agents to control biofilm formation in step 1 of care—Toothpastes and mouthwashes/concepts and challenges

open access: yesPeriodontology 2000, EarlyView.
Abstract Maintaining optimal oral hygiene is important for overall oral care, ensuring the well‐being of teeth and their surrounding tissues. In addition, it promotes fresh breath and a pleasing smile. A key element of oral self‐care is the daily use of toothpaste during regular brushing.
