Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Learning salience amoung [sic] features through contingency in the CEL framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
Determining which features in an environment are salient given a task, salience assignment, is a central problem in Machine Learning. A related phenomenon, contingency (the conditions under which relative salience among environmental features is acquired)

Examining the Relationships Among Categorization, Stereotype Activation, and Stereotype Application. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Increased category salience is associated with increased stereotyping. Prior research has not examined the processes that may account for this relationship.

Salience and default mode network coupling predicts cognition in aging and Parkinson’s disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
OBJECTIVES: Cognitive impairment is common in Parkinson’s disease (PD). Three neurocognitive networks support efficient cognition: the salience network, the default mode network, and the central executive network.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Identifying and categorizing stakeholders for protected area expansion around a national park in Namibia

open access: yesEcology and Society, 2019
Protected areas and adjacent landscapes are increasingly being viewed as integrated. A more general awareness is emerging of the relevance of collectively managed landscapes for conservation and human well-being.

Dying to Eat: Terror Management and Attitudes Toward Eating Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Terror management theory posits that the drive for self-preservation and the knowledge of our inevitable death create anxiety in people, which they manage in a variety of ways, including favoring those who are like them and distancing themselves from ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
