Adapting to Water Scarcity in Mediterranean Greenhouse Agriculture: Insights From Digital Irrigation and Regulated Water Governance in Southeastern Spain

open access: yesCorporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Climate‐driven water scarcity is compounding adaptation pressures on Mediterranean greenhouse farming, particularly for small and micro agricultural firms governed by regulated water‐governance systems. This paper analyses differentiated adaptation profiles in Almería (Spain) based on an analysis of farm structure, digital irrigation adoption,

Delineation and modeling of seawater intrusion into the Nile Delta Aquifer: A new perspective

open access: yesWater Science, 2015
A comprehensive conceptual regional model for the Nile Delta aquifer has been composed in terms of the actual perspective of aquifer heterogeneity using all the new field data of drilled quality monitoring points in the Nile Delta aquifer. The study used

Geological carbon dioxide storage in the German North Sea: Static‐to‐dynamic capacity refinement for a 10 Mt/y injection scenario

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study assesses whether a saline aquifer in the German North Sea can sustain industrial‐scale CO2 injection at 10 Mt/year over 30 years. A 3D reservoir model is used to compare static capacity with dynamically achievable storage. The work links site‐scale injection strategy design with basin‐scale pressure response, providing a framework for ...

Exploration of the storage capacity and suitability of the Ordovician saline water layer for carbon sequestration in the Huainan mining area

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Construction
Against the backdrop of escalating global climate change and increasing pressure to reduce carbon emissions, carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies have gained widespread attention as crucial measures to mitigate greenhouse gas ...

Seawater intrusion due to pumping mitigated by natural freshwater flux: a case study in Władysławowo, northern Poland

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
The paper presents a case study of seawater intrusion into a coastal aquifer, caused by a groundwater intake located close to the seashore in Władysławowo, northern Poland.

Modeling and monitoring injectivity evolution during cold CO2 injection with field evidence from aquistore carbon capture and storage operations

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This work integrates 5 years of field data from the Aquistore CCS project with a non‐isothermal THM modeling framework to explain how cold CO2 injection alters injectivity over time. The study shows that sustained cooling near the wellbore reduces effective stresses, promotes tensile micro‑cracking, and leads to semi‑reversible permeability enhancement

Numerical investigation of natural fracture activation and leakage risk during CO2 sequestration in depleted sandstone reservoirs

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates the hydro‐mechanical response and fracture evolution in depleted sandstone reservoirs during CO2 injection, considering both direct wellbore injection and hydraulic‐fracture‐assisted injection. The graphical abstract illustrates how CO2 injection induces dynamic stress redistribution, leading to natural fracture activation ...

Analysis of Aquifer Pumping Test Data to Determine Deep Groundwater Security in Southeastern Bangladesh

open access: yesJournal of Natural Resources and Development, 2018
In southeastern Bangladesh, where water quality in the upper aquifers is a serious constraint, future development will likely be confined to deep fresh groundwater.

Abstraction, desalination and recharge method to control seawater intrusion into unconfined coastal aquifers [PDF]

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Environmental Science and Management, 2019
In this study, abstraction, desalination and recharge method and SEAWAT numerical model are used to investigate seawater intrusion repulsion in a hypothetical two-dimensional coastal aquifer to understand the relation of seawater intrusion with ...

Securing Water in a Changing Climate: A Transient Solar Desalination Model for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This graphical abstract presents a solar‐powered reverse osmosis (RO) system for the Sundarbans, Bangladesh. Mechanistic modeling reveals a critical seasonal mismatch: during the monsoon, feed water salinity peaks (24.8 ppt) while solar irradiance drops significantly.
