Abstract. An indirect immunofluorescence technique using antisera aganist salivary peptide P-C and against salivary Protein C was carried out on the laryngeal, tracheal and bronchial glands to examine whether salivary peptide P-C-like immunoreactivity, recently demonstrated in the serous cells of the human salivary glands, was also present in those of ...

Potential uses of human salivary protein and peptide analysis in the diagnosis of disease
Archives of Oral Biology, 2012Saliva is an important body fluid containing a complex mixture of proteins, peptides and other substances. These are not only important in maintaining the health of the oral cavity but also may yield information about oral and systemic disease. Comprehensive analysis and identification of the proteomic content of human saliva may contribute to the ...

A basic proline-rich peptide, P-C, was isolated from human whole saliva and its amino acid sequence was determined to be Gly-Arg-Pro-Gln-Gly-Pro-Pro-Gln-Gln-Gly-Gly-His-Gln-Gln-Gly-Pro-Pro-Pro-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gly-Lys-Pro-Gln-Gly-Pro-Pro-Pro-Gln-Gly-Gly-Arg-Pro-Gln-Gly-Pro-Pro-Gln-Gly-Gln-Ser-Pro-Gln.

Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) injected intravenously was found to induce a flow of saliva from both the parotid and the submaxillary gland in the rat. The secretion was slow in onset. The amount of saliva secreted from the parotid gland was less than that from the submaxillary gland. Parotid saliva was very viscous.

It has been suggested that the addition of flavonols (i.e. white grape skins) improves and stabilizes the color of red wines. However, it has been shown that flavonol glycosides produce a mouth-drying and mouth-coating sensation at very low threshold ...

Using salivary beta-amyloid peptides, the results to diagnose AD are briefly introduced. The quantity of AD peptides in the saliva of normal young man (nYM, normal elderly (nE) group and AD patients is measured in the range from very low concentration (∼pg/ml) to high concentration (∼ng/ml).
