Overlooked aspects of the Salmo salar and Salmo trutta lifecycles
Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries, 2019The salmonid lifecycle has been studied for over a 100 years. Our literature search indicated that the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta) are among the most studied of fish species. By reviewing both their anadromous and non-anadromous lifecycles, we show that there is a growing body of evidence of considerable variation in ...

The chromosomes of Salmo salar
Chromosoma, 1967A new chromosome number, 2n=58, is reported for Salmo solar, the Atlantic salmon. The complement comprises 8 pairs of metacentrics, 21 pairs of acrocentrics. The question of variation in chromosome numbers for different salmon stocks is very briefly discussed.

Freshwater habitat of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar)
Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 2000This perspective summarizes our knowledge of the freshwater habitat of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). The article is organized by life stage and identifies areas where more research is needed. For example, little is known of the kelt and presmolt life stages despite their importance in stock maintenance.

Immunostaining of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) leucocytes
Journal of Immunological Methods, 2010Different salmon leucocyte subpopulations were identified by immunostaining using rabbit antiserum raised against the salmonid cell line TO derived from head kidney leucocytes in combination with other available immunoglobulins. The rabbit anti-TO cell line serum immunostained all isolated leucocytes from head kidney, peripheral blood and spleen, as ...

A Lymphosarcoma in an Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)
Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1987A lymphosarcoma that appeared to be of thymic origin and of lymphoblastic type was found in a 3.5-yr-old Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). The fish was from a population of 60 broodfish maintained at a research fish laboratory. A large tumor mass was found under the left operculum.
