Emergence, Dissemination and Antimicrobial Resistance of the Main Poultry-Associated Salmonella Serovars in Brazil

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences, 2022
Salmonella infects poultry, and it is also a human foodborne pathogen. This bacterial genus is classified into several serovars/lineages, some of them showing high antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

Behavior of Salmonella Heidelberg in Fruit Juices [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nutrition and Food Sciences, 2013
The aim of the study is determination of the behavior of Salmonella heidelberg under acidic conditions and variable temperatures. The growth and survival of Salmonella heidelberg (10 isolates) in fresh fruit juices including; apple (pH, 3.2-1.4), orange (pH, 5.4 –1.5), mango (pH, 5.4-2.8), guava (pH, 5.7-2.4), pineapple (pH, 5.6-2.3), and cocktail (pH,

Molecular basis of antibiotic sensing by the TetR family regulator CecR – a structural perspective

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 6, Page 1801-1817, March 2026.
Escherichia coli CecR, a member of the TetR family regulators, senses selected antibiotics and activates the expression of a putative drug efflux pump. Although present in many pathogenic Enterobacteriales strains, CecR remains poorly characterized. We present the first CecR crystal structure, which reveals a unique tunnel‐like ligand‐binding cavity ...

Gentamicin Susceptibility and Comparison of Adhesion and Invasion of Caco-2 and HD11 Cell Lines by Salmonella enterica Serotypes

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Foodborne Salmonella serovars are important facultative intracellular pathogens that cause gastroenteritis in humans. Four strains from three of the more predominant Salmonella serovars in poultry were studied: Typhimurium, Enteritidis, and Heidelberg ...

Antibacterial Activity of Estragole From Ocimum tenuiflorum, and Tagetes lucida and Synergistic Effect With Meropenem and Tobramycin Against Multidrug‐ and Extensively Drug‐Resistant (MDR‐XDR) Gram‐Negative Bacteria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 1, February 2026.
This study reveals estragole's bactericidal activity against MDR/XDR Gram‐negative pathogens. Synergy with meropenem and tobramycin was observed in > 88% of strains, reducing antibiotic MICs up to 16‐fold. Estragole represents a promising therapeutic adjuvant to enhance antibiotic efficacy and combat antimicrobial resistance.

DNA sequence analysis of plasmids from multidrug resistant Salmonella enterica serotype Heidelberg isolates. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Salmonella enterica serovar Heidelberg is among the most detected serovars in swine and poultry, ranks among the top five serotypes associated with human salmonellosis and is disproportionately associated with invasive infections and mortality in humans.

The European Union Summary Report on Antimicrobial Resistance in zoonotic and indicator bacteria from humans, animals and food in 2023–2024

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract This report presents the main findings of the 2023–2024 harmonised antimicrobial resistance (AMR) monitoring in Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from humans, food‐producing animals (broilers, laying hens, fattening turkeys, fattening pigs and bovines under 1 year of age), and derived meat.
