ABSTRACT Soil salinization negatively impacts the economic development and ecological environment, particularly in the arid and semiarid regions of China. The Qaidam Basin constitutes a major distribution area of saline‐alkali land in the country. However, the distribution patterns of salinity and nutrients within soil profiles and the underlying salt ...

Bio-geomorphic patterns in tidal environments [PDF]
In times of natural and anthropogenic climate change, tidal bio-geomorphic systems are most exposed to possibly irreversible transformations with far-reaching ecological and socio-economic implications.

Sediment deposition shapes the resilience of coastal wetlands by driving marsh accretion and helping marsh platforms keep pace with sea-level rise. Vegetation is widely recognized as an ecosystem engineer that promotes sediment trapping and substrate ...

Abstract Fluorometric enzyme assays are a tool for determining potential enzyme activity in soils. A wide array of methodological approaches is adopted by different studies, making comparisons difficult. An important consideration is whether assay conditions replicate the environment of the samples or optimize potential enzyme activity.

Coastal salt marshes play a key role in coastal carbon sequestration. Understanding the spatial distribution and annual changes of carbon storage of salt marsh plants at a local scale is helpful for accurate protection and restoration.

First multi‐season analysis linking cumulative duration and habitat selection to human modification in two declining shorebirds. A total of 160 cumulative duration was identified at four periods for two species. Longer cumulative duration correlate with higher human modification in coastal wetlands during northward migration and winter.

Anticoagulant Rodenticides Contribute to a Decline in an Urban Carnivore
Anticoagulant rodenticides (ARs) have been shown to negatively affect carnivores globally and are closely tied to human activity and development. We examined drivers of annual survival in bobcats persisting on a residentially developed barrier island over 16 years.

Disturbed salt marshes may recover with little additional management once tidal inundation is restored. We assessed the success of such recovery by comparing the invertebrate biota of Bay of Fundy salt marsh pools in a reference site at Dipper Harbour to

Palynological records are central to the biostratigraphic subdivision of the Late Pleistocene in central Europe. Yet many interglacial and interstadial phases—such as the Eemian, Brörup and Odderade—remain only poorly constrained in time due to limited numerical dating.

Vegetation influence on CO2 and CH4 exchange in a temperate salt marsh ecosystem
Vargas, RodrigoSalt marshes are one of the most productive ecosystems in the world with the capacity to store large amounts of carbon per unit area, referred as Blue Carbon.
