Investigation of rock salt layer creep and its effects on casing collapse

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2020
Casing collapse is one of the costly incidents in the oil industry. In the oil fields of southwest Iran, most casing collapses have occurred in Gachsaran formation, and the halite rock salt layer in this formation may be the main cause for these ...

Strain engineering of topological properties in lead-salt semiconductors

open access: yes, 2013
Rock-salt chalcogenide SnTe represents the simplest realization of a topological insulator where a crystal symmetry allows for the appearence of topologically protected metallic states with an even number of Dirac cones on high-symmetry crystal surfaces.

Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.

Experimental Study and Damage Model Study of Rock Salt Subjected to Cyclic Loading and Cyclic Creep

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
Due to the gas injection and production of underground salt caves during the operational phase, rock salt is often subjected to a combined stress of cyclic pressure and constant pressure.

Observations of the Askaryan Effect in Ice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
We report on the first observations of the Askaryan effect in ice: coherent impulsive radio Cherenkov radiation from the charge asymmetry in an electromagnetic (EM) shower.

Colloidal Crack Sintering Lithography for Light‐Induced Patterning of Particle Assemblies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Colloidal crack sintering lithography (CCSL) is a microfabrication technique that uses light‐induced photothermal heating to trigger sintering and controlled cracking in polymer colloidal assemblies. Local structural changes generate microchannels and patterns, enabling direct writing of diverse topographic motifs.

High pressure synthesis of FeO-ZnO solid solutions with rock salt structure: in situ X-ray diffraction studies

open access: yes, 2010
X-ray diffraction with synchrotron radiation has been used for the first time to study chemical interaction in the FeO-ZnO system at 4.8 GPa and temperatures up to 1300 K.

Micromechanical modeling for rate‐dependent behavior of salt rock under cyclic loading

open access: yesInternational journal for numerical and analytical methods in geomechanics (Print), 2020
The dependence of rock behavior on the deformation rate is still not well understood. In salt rock, the fundamental mechanisms that drive the accumulation of irreversible deformation, the reduction of stiffness, and the development of hysteresis during ...

Electrochemical Abuse‐Driven Thermal Runaway in Lithium‐Ion Batteries: Evolution From Beginning‐of‐Life to End‐of‐Life

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochemical abuse transforms thermal runaway behavior in lithium‐ion batteries. Through systematic decoupling of degradation mechanisms, this study reveals that lithium plating lowers the onset temperature by 10 °C, electrolyte consumption delays high‐temperature reactions, and capacity fade reduces total heat generation. These mechanistic insights

Mesoporous Carbon Thin Films with Large Mesopores as Model Material for Electrochemical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesoporous carbon thin films possessing 70 nm mesopores are prepared on titanium substrates by soft templating of resol resins with a self‐synthesized poly(ethylene oxide)‐block‐poly(hexyl acrylate) block copolymer. A strategy to avoid corrosion of the metal substrate is presented, and the films are extensively characterized in terms of morphology ...
