Post-harvest processing practices of small-scale fisherfolk from Rosario, Cavite, Philippines: Physicochemical and microbiological properties of tuyo [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Dried, salted fish (Sardinella spp.), locally known as tuyo, is a Filipino food staple. Pandawan fisherfolk consider tuyo processing as their main source of livelihood. This study determined the relation of post-harvest practices with the physicochemical

Comparative Study on Organoleptic, Microbiological and Chemical Qualities of Dried Fish, Goldstripe Sardinella(Sardinella Gibbosa) with Low Salt Levels and Spices

open access: yesProcedia Food Science, 2016
AbstractDried fish is very important component in Sri Lankan fishery productswhile current domestic production is estimated at around 40,000 tons per year. Generally, dried fish production in Sri Lanka is based on traditional methodology where 30% of salt is used averagely. Use of excess amount of salt can have negative health effects.

Gold Nanoclusters as Dual Agents for Engineering Tumor Vascular Leakiness and Performing Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Many cancer nanotherapeutics, while potent, suffer from the inability to escape from the tumor vasculature, especially in the absence of endothelial permeability. In this work, ultrasmall gold nanoclusters could engineer nanomaterials induced endothelial leakiness (NanoEL) and harness strong NIR induced photothermal characteristics to suppress tumor ...

Optimization of the Arapaima gigas Meat Product Manufacturing Process Using Probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria

open access: yesAgrociencia Uruguay
Compounds derived from microorganisms have considerable potential in fish preservation. Among them, lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are widely studied because they dominate the natural microflora of many foods and produce antimicrobial metabolites ...

Radiation decontamination and disinfestation of salted dried tilapia fish (koobi)

open access: yesGhana Journal of Agricultural Science, 2006
Salted dried tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fish locally called koobi was investigated with the view of establishing the effective radiation dose for controlling microbial and insect activity on the product. Total viable count (TVC) of market samples of koobi ranged between log 10 4.11 - 6.78 cfu/g, whilst mould and yeast count ranged between log 10 1.

Bio‐Inspired Magnetically Tunable Structural Colors from Elliptical Self‐Assembled Block Copolymer Microparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cephalopod‐inspired photonic microparticles with dynamic structural coloration are fabricated via confined self‐assembly of linear block copolymers into ellipsoids containing stacked lamellae. Embedded superparamagnetic nanoparticles enable rapid magnetic alignment, restoring vivid, angle‐dependent color.

Photo‐Controlled Antibacterial Drug Release From DASA‐Coated Silica Particles for Improved Treatment of Wound Infections

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Synthesis and characterization of light‐responsive donor–acceptor Stenhouse adducts (DASA)‐coated chlorhexidine‐loaded silica nanoparticles. Such a controllable drug‐delivery system enables the release of the antimicrobial drug on demand and in consecutive cycles, thereby maintaining the concentration within the therapeutic window.

Voltage‐Gated Dedoping of n‐Doped Poly(benzodifurandione) as an Interfacial Protective Mechanism in Electrochromic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrochromic polymer stability under overpotential is improved by inserting an ultrathin, transparent n‐doped poly(benzodifurandione) interlayer between indium tin oxide and a poly(3,4‐propylenedioxythiophene)‐based electrochromic polymer. The interlayer supports rapid switching at operating bias, then becomes resistive near +0.8 V to suppress excess
