The Geology of the Saltern Cove Area, Torbay
Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society of London, 1927The small complex of Lower, Middle, and Upper Devonian rocks which occupies a mile by half a mile, immediately south of Paignton, lies between Goodrington and Broadsands. The sequence and structure are well seen in the cliffs and the railway-cutting, but farther inland there is a lack of good exposures.

Haloarchaeal communities in the crystallizers of two adriatic solar salterns
Canadian Journal of Microbiology, 2007Solar salterns operate only for short dry periods of the year in the north shore of the Adriatic Sea because of its relatively humid and cold Mediterranean climate. In a previous paper, we showed that the NaCl precipitation ponds (crystallizers) of Northern Adriatic Sečovlje salterns have different haloarchaeal populations from those typically found in

Diversity partitioning of a phytoplankton community in semiarid salterns
Marine and Freshwater Research, 2015Salterns consist of a series of interconnected evaporators that form sectors in the salterns. Their operation generates an increasing saline gradient, which influences species diversity. The present study was conducted in three salterns, with the goal of evaluating the diversity partitioning of phytoplankton along the saline gradient.

Salmonella mutagenicity analysis of water samples from Çamaltı saltern
Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, 2007Mutagenicity analysis of water samples from Camalti Saltern, Turkey were investigated by applying Salmonella mutagenicity test. Plate incorporation assay was applied in the absence of metabolic activation. XAD 4 and XAD 16 columns were used for the fractionation of the water samples. The results obtained were negative in both TA 98 and TA 100. Although

Pre-industrial Salterns: Introductions to Heritage Assets
2018Salterns, or 'salt works', are places where crystalline salt was extracted from salt water - either sea water, or brine from inland springs. Salt production follows a process of evaporation until crystals of sodium chloride are precipitated from sea-water or inland brine. Descriptions of the asset type as well as its development and associations, along

The vegetation of the Ston saltern (Southern Adriatic, Croatia)
2019The saltern in the town of Ston is the oldest in Europe, dating back to the 14th century. The saltern did not change its appearance and mode of production since the foundation. The territory of the saltern (the production area of ca. 43 ha) is structurally composed of areas having various configurations in relation to the different production phases of
