Reliance on lakes by salmon, trout and charr ( Oncorhynchus , Salmo and Salvelinus ): An evaluation of spawning habitats, rearing strategies and trophic polymorphisms

Fish and Fisheries, 2019
Salmonid fishes may reside within or migrate between stream and lake habitats, or undergo anadromous migrations between freshwater and the ocean. While the degree of anadromy of salmonids has been thoroughly compared, no analogous review has examined the

Genetic relationships of Chukchi charr Salvelinus andriashevi and Taranetz charr Salvelinus taranetzi

Russian Journal of Genetics, 2017
On the basis of sequence analysis of the mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region (CR), cytochrome b (Cytb), and cytochrome oxidase-1 (CoI) genes, the relationships of endemic species Salvelinus andriashevi Berg, 1948, represented by the only population from Lake Estikhed (Chukotka), were estimated.

Pressure shock triploidization of Salmo trutta f. lacustris and Salvelinus umbla eggs and its impact on fish development.

Theriogenology, 2018
The study tested the efficiency of hydrostatic pressure triploidization methods for Salmo trutta f. lacustris and Salvelinus umbla and investigated the effects on survival rate, skeletal malformation, and on morphometrics and cellular composition of ...

Hatching glands in salmonid fishes, Salmo gairdneri, Salmo trutta, Salvelinus fontinalis and Salvelinus pluvius

Cell and Tissue Research, 1976
The unicellular hatching glands (UHGs) of four species of salmonid fish, Salmo gairdneri, Salmo trutta, Salvelinus fontinalis and Salvelinus pluvius were studied by light and electron microscopy. The UHGs are distributed on the epidermis of head and yolk sac, and on the epithelium of the mouth and gills.

Evidence for Introgressive Hybridization between Native Dolly Varden (Salvelinus curilus (syn. Salvelinus malma)) and Introduced Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) in the Nishibetsu River of Hokkaido, Japan

Zoological Science, 2021
Hybridization is one of the negative outcomes for the introduction of non-native species, which can lead to rapid displacement and genetic extinction of native species. Salmonid fishes have been widely introduced outside of their native ranges for food supply and recreational fishing.

OVARIECTOMY IN A BROOK TROUT (SALVELINUS FONTINALIS)

Journal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2002
A 1.7-kg mature, female brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) was diagnosed with egg retention. Eggs could not be manually stripped and so were surgically removed. To prevent future complications, bilateral ovariectomy was performed. Complications were minimal, and the fish resumed eating within 2 days.

Growth and dietary niche in Salvelinus alpinus and Salvelinus fontinalis as revealed by stable isotope analysis

Environmental Biology of Fishes, 2002
Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus, and brook chair, Salvelinus fontinalis, inhabiting three lakes in the de la Trinite River and adjacent watershed, north shore, Gulf of St. Lawrence, were sampled in 1998. Arctic chart growth differed among lakes with the smallest fish coming from the largest lake.
