Effect of confining pressure on fracture characteristics and mineralogical behavior of tight sandstone specimens after hydraulic fracturing

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Hydraulic fracturing in tight sandstone and fracture propagation characteristics using backscattered electron‐scanning electron microscope (BSE‐SEM) images. Abstract This study focuses on hydraulic fracturing experiments conducted under triaxial conditions on tight sandstone specimens from Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh, India.

Sand fly vectorial ecology in the state of São Paulo [PDF]

open access: yesMemórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1994
Ecological aspect of sand fly distribution in the State of São Paulo, Brazil are described. The main man-biting species are Lutzomyia whitmani, Lu.pessoai, Lu.intermedia, Lu.migonei and Lu.fischeri. Their primary habitat is the forest but latter three of the above species are also encountered in domiciliary environment.

AN IMPROVED MASS-REARING METHOD OF THE CARROT RUST FLY, PSILA ROSAE (DIPTERA: PSILIDAE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Protein fed to adults of the carrot rust fly, Psila rosae F., enhanced oviposition: the addition of yeast hydrolysate to the sugar diet resulted in a 50% increase in oviposition, giving an average of 75 eggs per female.A description is given of a simple ...

Ornamental plants as climatic indicators of arthropod vectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The importance and risk of vector-borne diseases (e.g., leishmaniasis, West Nile Virus, Lyme borreliosis) is going to increase in the European temperate areas due to climate change.

Gels for CO2 geo‐storage and conformance control: A systemic review of behavior and performance

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This review provides a systemic evaluation of potential sealants used in CO2 subsurface storage practices. Critical analyses of how external factors like CO2, pH, brine salinity and hardness, rock mineralogy, pressure, temperature, and injectivity could affect the performance of different sealants are provided. Abstract Carbon capture and storage (CCS)

Temperature‐dependent shear behavior and constitutive model of the rock–concrete interface

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
Shear tests were conducted to investigate the temperature‐dependent shear behavior of the rock–concrete interface, highlighting the interaction between the surrounding rock and the lining during tunnel fires. Under experimental conditions, concrete exhibited greater temperature sensitivity than rock, with the shear fracture surface transitioning from ...

Shape‐shifting in relative wing length of juvenile shorebirds: no evidence of developmental temperatures driving morphological changes

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Morphological changes concurrent with climate change are increasingly identified in birds, often through decreasing body size and increasing appendage size. Such changes could have thermoregulatory implications, through the improved surface area to body ratio they provide.

Identification of Toscana virus in natural population of sand flies (Diptera: Psychodidae) from Moroccan leishmaniasis foci

open access: yesJournal of Infection and Public Health, 2022
Background: Phlebotomine sand flies are known as vectors of various pathogens such as Leishmania sp parasite and Toscana virus (TOSV). Leishmaniasis is endemic in Morocco, and TOSV is increasingly reported.
