A study of Compressive Strength Characteristics of Laterite/sand Hollow Blocks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper presents the results of experimental investigations carried out on partial replacement of sand with laterite as it affects the compressive strength of sandcrete hollow blocks. Two mix proportions (1:6 and 1:8) were used with laterite content

Removing Oxide Layers and Retaining Oxide‐Free Steel Surfaces by Polishing in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the efficacy of wet mechanical polishing under an oxygen‐free atmosphere for deoxidation and the retention of an oxide‐free steel surface are elucidated using X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The methodology proved successful; however, the results were highly dependent on the preparation of the solvents used to clean the samples after ...

Characterization of the Parameters of Sand Moulds in Compaction Process by Use of the Industrial Computer Tomography (ICT)

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2014
One main problem in moulding is the proper characterization of the local density of the mould, the best without its destroying, for assessment the quality of the mould and to compare results of compaction modeling with experimental results.

Quality assessment of a new in-mould slurry deposition method for triaxial specimen reconstitution of clean and silty sands [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
An innovative specimen reconstitution technique for sandy and silty soils that simulates underwater deposition is presented and evaluated. The technique is an upgraded version for triaxial testing of the well-established slurry deposition method.

Influences of impurities in recycled plastics on properties of PIM sandwich panels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Powder impression moulding (PIM) is a novel technology for manufacturing lightweight sandwich panels from plastics in powder form. The process is featured by its high tolerant to impurities or contaminants in the feedstock and thus requires much less ...

Evaluation of properties of cast metal foams with irregular inner structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Internal structure of metal foams is one of the most important factors that determine its mechanical properties. There exists a number of methods for studying the nature of the inner porous structure.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

THE INFLUENCE OF COMPACTION METHODS ON THE PROPERTIES OF HOLLOW CONCRETE BRICKS UTILIZING FLY ASH AND BOTTOM ASH [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This study focuses on the maximal use of industrial waste from burning coal, i.e. fly ash and bottom ash, in making hollow concrete bricks (HCB). Fly ash (FA) and bottom ash (BA) obtained from East Java, Indonesia, is incorporated to partly replace the ...

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.
