X-joints in Composite Sandwich Panels
1998The small structural weight of fast large ships such as fast mono hulls or catamaran type of ships is of extreme importance to their success. One possible light weight structural solution is the sandwich panel with fibre reinforced laminates and a balsa, honeycomb or foam core.

Sandwich Panels with Stepped Facings
50th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2009Sandwich panels have been developed to either design a lighter structure capable of carrying prescribed loads or to increase the load-carrying capacity subject to limitations on the weight. The major loadcarrying elements of a sandwich structure are its facings, while the core primarily serves to resist transverse shear loads, enhance local strength ...

To increase insight in the behaviour of non-reinforced sandwich panels with openings, experiments, finite element simulations and analytical models have been developed and compared. Analytical models have been developed to determine the global deformations of sandwich panels without cracks.

Sandwich panel and a method of producing a sandwich panel
2005The present invention relates to a sandwich panel comprising a front face plate (2), a back face plate (3) and one or more core materials (4,5), where said front face plate and said back face plate are interconnected by said core materials, where a number of different core inserts, and/or fasteners (51-55,58,59) are provided in connection to said ...

The localized wrinkling instability, and the overall buckling of these panels due to axial compression and shear loading are presented. Numerically the finite strip method, the finite prism method, and the finite layer method are especially efficient in analyzing prismatic members such as these architectural sandwich panels, whereas it would be ...

On the Deformation of Parallelogrammic Sandwich Panels
The Aeronautical Journal, 1970Sandwich panels are utilised quite often in aircraft and missile structures mainly because of their high strength to weight ratio. The core of the panel, made of light material such as balsa wood or synthetic material, stabilises the face skin sheet which is usually metallic, and contributes to the shear strength of the section.Rectangular sandwich ...

Spring-in of angled sandwich panels
Composites Science and Technology, 2005This paper presents a simple analytical model for the prediction of thermo-elastic deformation (spring-in) of angled composite sandwich panels. The development of the model is presented and the simplifying assumptions are clearly defined. Contributions from different mechanisms are clearly shown which gives a good understanding of the problem.
