Complementary Capacities and Shared Challenges: Lessons From a Brazil‐Australia Water Management Consortium

open access: yesWorld Water Policy, Volume 12, Issue 2, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Transnational collaboration is critical for water‐security innovation, yet actor configurations and thematic priorities remain poorly characterized. We surveyed 92 Australian and Brazilian researchers from the Tropical Water Research Alliance (TWRA), analyzing 11 sets of binary variables on collaboration modes, stakeholders, implementation ...

Emergence and Genomic Characterization of a Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolate From a New Clone in Brazil

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, Volume 70, Issue 5, Page 261-267, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae (hvKp) has emerged globally as a major public health concern, often associated with severe community‐acquired and healthcare‐associated human infections. Despite alerts from PAHO/WHO on convergent hvKp strains with multidrug resistance in Latin America, comprehensive data from Brazil, the region's largest ...

Landscape features predict broad‐scale seed rain patterns across fragments of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 5, May 2026.
Along with precipitation, forest cover emerges as a fundamental driver of alpha and beta diversity in the seed rain. This highlights the role of habitat amount at the landscape level over patch‐level features, like patch size, for seed dispersal. However, increased seed density can be related to higher dispersal rates in forest borders.

Advances in Wine Yeast Autolysis: Biochemical and Molecular Mechanisms, and the Release of Organic Compounds in White and Sparkling Wines—An Updated Review

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Wine yeasts play a central role in alcoholic fermentation and significantly contribute to the sensory attributes of wines through cellular autolysis during lees aging (sur lie), especially in white wines. This process releases organic compounds that alter the wine's chemical and sensory profile.

In Vitro Antitrypanosomal and Antibacterial Activity of Aqueous, Hydroethanolic and Ethanolic Extracts of Rumex obtusifolius L. Leaf and Root

open access: yesBasic &Clinical Pharmacology &Toxicology, Volume 138, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Plant extracts are an important raw material for the development of new drugs. Rumex obtusifolius L., popularly known as ‘bitter dock’, has significant pharmacological properties. This study evaluated the in vitro antitrypanosomal activity of aqueous, hydroethanolic and ethanolic extracts from the leaf and roots of R. obtusifolius L.

Forest Recovery or Shrubland Assembly? Vegetation Dynamics in Abandoned Atlantic Forest Highland Pastures

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding successional trajectories in abandoned lands is critical for predicting forest recovery potential in the Atlantic Forest, a global biodiversity hotspot. Over a decade of field monitoring (2014–2025) in permanent plots in the subtropical highlands of southern Brazil, we analyzed the dynamics of tree‐shrub components in abandoned ...
