Traceability of Agri‐Food Products: The Key to Conscious Trade

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Globalization and growing concerns about sustainability have led to improvements in product traceability, quality, and sustainability. Traceability contributes to environmental protection and supports sustainable development by fostering transparency in agricultural practices and encouraging the responsible use of resources.

Corrected heat capacity of wood for sap flow calculations [PDF]

open access: yesTree Physiology, 1999
Values for the temperature-dependent heat capacity of wood were applied to correct the coefficient used to calculate sap velocity from heat pulse velocity, leading to values at 20 degrees C about 5% smaller than values calculated with the widely employed algorithm of Edwards and Warwick.

Uncertainty‐Guided Selective Adaptation Enables Cross‐Platform Predictive Fluorescence Microscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
Deep learning models often fail when transferred to new microscopes. A novel framework overcomes this by selectively adapting the early layers governing low‐level image statistics, while freezing deep layers that encode morphology. This uncertainty‐guided approach enables robust, label‐free virtual staining across diverse systems, democratizing ...

Serum amyloid P aids complement-mediated immunity to Streptococcus pneumoniae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The physiological functions of the acute phase protein serum amyloid P (SAP) component are not well defined, although they are likely to be important, as no natural state of SAP deficiency has been reported.

Retinal Vessel Segmentation: A Comprehensive Review From Classical Methods to Deep Learning Advances (1982–2025)

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Four decades of retinal vessel segmentation research (1982–2025) are synthesized, spanning classical image processing, machine learning, and deep learning paradigms. A meta‐analysis of 428 studies establishes a unified taxonomy and highlights performance trends, generalization capabilities, and clinical relevance.

Sap flow as a function of variables within nested scales: ordinary least squares vs. spatial regression models

open access: yesEnvironmental Research: Ecology, 2023
Understanding scale-dependent influential drivers of sap flow variability can help managers and policymakers to allocate resources within a particular scale to improve forest health and resiliency against water-stress stimuli such as drought and insects,

Simulation of long-term stem diameter variation of Ficus benjamina based on simulated transpiration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Greenhouse microclimate (light, temperature, relative humidity and CO2) and irrigation are important factors for plant growth, development and quality in ornamental horticulture.

Confessions of a Poverty Researcher: My Journey Through the Foothills of Scholarship

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper describes the key events, experiences and ideas that influenced the author's career as a poverty researcher. He describes how his early disillusion with economics was replaced by a spark of interest in social issues and how his migration from the UK to Australia in the mid‐1970s provided the impetus to begin what became a lifetime ...
