Operational interferometric SAR products
IGARSS '98. Sensing and Managing the Environment. 1998 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing. Symposium Proceedings. (Cat. No.98CH36174), 1998Today, SAR interferometry plays an important role in the observation of the Earth. It enables the generation of digital elevation models. Differential interferometry allows the determination of uplifting and subsidence and coherence is utilized for land use classification purposes.

Benchmarking operational SAR ship detection
IEEE International IEEE International IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2004. IGARSS '04. Proceedings. 2004, 2004The performances of eight satellite SAR ship detection systems (most of them operational) are compared, by running a benchmark test on RADARSAT images of various modes.

Operational SAR Sea-Ice Image Classification
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2012Thousands of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sea-ice images are systematically processed every year in support of operational activities such as ship navigation and environmental monitoring. An automated approach that generates pixel-level sea-ice image classification is required since manual pixel-level classification is not feasible ...

On the use of mapping operators in SAR and SAS
Conference Record of The Thirtieth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2002The process of reconstructing a two-dimensional image of the earth's surface or the sea floor from a sequence of pulse echoes collected by a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) or sonar (SAS) is well established. There are differences between radar and sonar mainly stemming from the much slower speed of sound propagation in water compared with that of ...

An edge detection operator for SAR images
Proceedings of Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering, 1993The detection of small linear features from SAR imagery is complicated by the presence of speckle and the nonstationarity of the image data. A feature detector is derived from the contrast ratio edge detector to extract linear features from SAR imagery with a constant probability of false alarm. The output of the feature detector is then passed through

Operating the X-band SAR interferometer of the SRTM
IGARSS 2000. IEEE 2000 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Taking the Pulse of the Planet: The Role of Remote Sensing in Managing the Environment. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37120), 2002The Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) is the first single pass SAR (synthetic aperture radar) interferometer in space; it has been flown on board the Space Shuttle in February 2000. The mission objective was to acquire a radar data set during this 11 day mission which allows one to generate a new consistent and more accurate global digital ...

SAR technology for operational rice monitoring
IGARSS 2000. IEEE 2000 International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium. Taking the Pulse of the Planet: The Role of Remote Sensing in Managing the Environment. Proceedings (Cat. No.00CH37120), 2002This paper presents the results of a study examining the backscatter behavior of rice as a function of time using multi-temporal RADARSAT data set acquired in 1996, 1997. A rice distribution map of Zhaoqing, China, was produced in 1997 and Pearl River Delta in 1999.

Operationally, SAR has several striking advantages. First, with a small physical antenna operating at wavelengths suitable for long-range mapping, SAR can provide azimuth resolutions as fine as a foot or so. Second, by increasing the length of the array in proportion to the range of the area to be mapped, the resolution can be made independent of range.

A SAR logic for glitch-less operation of a currentsteering DAC in a SAR ADC
2018 IEEE XXVII International Scientific Conference Electronics - ET, 2018A novel method is proposed to avoid glitches, when a current-steering DAC in a SAR ADC switches. This is achieved by using a new algorithm in the control logic. The results of circuit simulations on transistor level schematic example confirm the operation of the presented approach.

Automated Classification of Operational SAR Sea Ice Images
2010 Canadian Conference on Computer and Robot Vision, 2010The automated classification of operational sea ice satellite imagery is important for ship navigation and environmental monitoring. Annually, thousands of large synthetic aperture radar (SAR) scenes are manually processed by the Canadian Ice Service (CIS) and pixel-level interpretation is not feasible.
