Description of Sarcocystis scandentiborneensis sp. nov. from treeshrews (Tupaia minor, T. tana) in northern Borneo with annotations on the utility of COI and 18S rDNA sequences for species delineation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Sarcocystis scandentiborneensis sp. nov. was discovered in histological sections of striated musculature of treeshrews (Tupaia minor, T. tana) from Northern Borneo. Sarcocysts were cigar-shaped, 102 μm–545 μm long, and on average 53 μm in diameter.

Two New Species of Sarcocystis (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) Infecting the Wolverine (Gulo gulo) From Nunavut, Canada [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology, 2010
Infection with Sarcocystis species is common in many species of animals, but it has not yet been reported in wolverines (Gulo gulo). Histological sections of tongues from 41 wolverines in the Kitikmeot Region, Nunavut, Canada, were examined for sarcocysts. Sarcocysts were found in 33 (80.4%) wolverines.

Two recently sequenced vertebrate genomes are contaminated with apicomplexan species of the Sarcocystidae family [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Parasitology, 2015
(Uploaded by Plazi for the Bat Literature Project) This paper highlights a general problem, namely that host genome sequences can easily be contaminated with parasite sequences, thus careful isolation of genetic material and careful bioinformatics analysis are needed in all cases.
