Redescription of the Sarcocysts of Sarcocystis rileyi (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae)

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology, 2003
ABSTRACT. The intermediate hosts for Sarcocystis rileyi (Stiles 1893) Minchin 1903 are ducks (Anas spp.), and the striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) is its definitive host. The structure of sarcocysts from an experimentally infected shoveler duck (Anas cylpeata) fed sporocysts from an experimentally‐infected M.

Developmental Biology ofCystoisospora(Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) Monozoic Tissue Cysts

Journal of Parasitology, 2014
Tissue cyst stages are an intriguing aspect of the developmental cycle and transmission of species of Sarcocystidae. Tissue-cyst stages of Toxoplasma, Hammondia, Neospora, Besnoitia, and Sarcocystis contain many infectious stages (bradyzoites). The tissue cyst stage of Cystoisospora (syn.

Sarcocystis speeri n. sp. (Protozoa: Sarcocystidae) from the Opossum (Didelphis virginiana)

The Journal of Parasitology, 1999
The North American opossum (Didelphis virginiana) is host to at least 3 species of Sarcocystis: Sarcocystisfalcatula, Sarcocystis neurona, and a recently recognized Sarcocystis sp. A new name, Sarcocystis speeri, is proposed for the third unnamed Sarcocystis. Immunodeficient mice are an experimental intermediate host for S. speeri.

Named species and hosts of Sarcocystis (Protozoa: Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae)

Systematic Parasitology, 1980
A list is given of the present 93 species of the apicomplexan protozoan genus Sarcocystis together with their definitive and intermediate hosts (if known), synonyms, homonyms, lapsi calami, etc. The names of many species of this genus are poorly known, in doubt or controversial due to lack of access to some of the literature and to failure to accept ...

Sarcocystis dubeyi n. sp. (Protozoa: Sarcocystidae) in the Water Buffalo (Bubalus bubalis)

The Journal of Parasitology, 1999
Sarcocystis dubeyi n. sp. is proposed for a species forming thick-walled, microscopic sarcocysts in striated muscular tissues of the water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis). Sarcocysts of S. dubeyi were found in histological sections of skeletal muscles and esophagus, but not in heart and tongue, of 8 (13%) of 60 water buffaloes examined in Ho Chi Minh City ...

Sarcocystis oreamni, n. sp. (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) from the mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus)

Parasitology Research, 2015
Numerous species of Sarcocystis have been reported from wild ruminants, but none has been named from the Rocky Mountain goat (Oreamnos americanus). Mature sarcocysts were found in frozen muscle samples of three of seven mountain goats from Alaska, USA.

Resurrection of the genus Eumonospora (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) for Caryospora species without Stieda body

Parasitology International, 2020
The coccidian genus Eumonospora Allen, 1933 is re-established. Despite morphological features and host preference among species, coccidian with octasporozoic and monosporocystic oocysts are traditionally consider to belonging in the genus Caryospora Léger, 1904 (Apicomplexa: Eimeriidae).

Sarcocystis tuagulusi, n.sp. (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) from Williamson’s mouse deer (Tuagulus williamsoni) (Artiodactyla:Tragulidae)

Parasitology Research, 2015
Numerous species of Sarcocystis have been reported from wild ruminants, but none has been from Williamson's mouse deer (Tuagulus williamsoni). Here, we describe a new species, Sarcocystis tuagulusi, infecting five of 12 Williamson's mouse deer from southwest China. Mature sarcocysts are microscopic, up to 2280-μm long.

Note on the Taxonomy of Frenkelia microti (Findlay & Middleton, 1934) (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae)

Systematic Parasitology, 2004
Based on biological, morphological and molecular data, species of Frenkelia Biocca, 1968 should be reclassified within the genus Sarcocystis Poche, 1913. This taxonomic change leads to the secondary homonymy of S. microti (Findlay & Middleton, 1934) n. comb. and S. microti Dubey, 1983. The recently suggested conspecificity and consequent synonymy of S.

Sarcocystis dehongensis n. sp. (Apicomplexa: Sarcocystidae) from water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in China

Parasitology Research, 2017
Water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is the intermediate host for at least four species of Sarcocystis: S. fusiformis, S. buffalonis, S. levinei, and S. sinensis/S. dubeyi. Here, a new species, Sarcocystis dehongensis, is reported in 51 of 756 (6.7%) water buffaloes in China. By light microscopy, the cysts of S.
