Ultrastructure of Sarcocystis tenella (Sarcocystis ovicanis)
The ultrastructure of the parasitophorous cyst, the metrocytes and merozoites of Sarcocystis tenella (S. ovicanis) was studied. The general ultrastructural features of the cyst wall and the cells of the protozoan, previously described by other authors, were confirmed.

Unraveling Sarcocystis miescheriana and Sarcocystis suihominis infections in wild boar
Sarcocystis species are worldwide spread cyst-forming protozoa that can infect wild boar but little is known about the prevalence of these parasites. In this study we assessed the prevalence of Sarcocystis spp. infections in wild boars from northeastern Portugal, for which novel PCR testing assays targeting Sarcocystis genus, S.

The purpose of the present study was to obtain sarcocysts of Sarcocystis buffalonis and Sarcocystis levinei from water buffaloes and characterize the isolates by molecular methods in order to determine whether the two species were genetically different from Sarcocystis hirsuta and Sarcocystis cruzi, respectively, from cattle, which had been ...

Sarcocystis encephalitis in a cockatiel
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1984A sporozoan organism was considered to be the causative agent of central nervous system disease in a cockatiel. The ultrastructural characteristics were typical of the coccidian group Apicomplexa, and the fact that organisms were free within the cytoplasm of infected cells and not within a vacuole, indicated they were Sarcocystis.

Antibodies to Sarcocystis in Malaysians
Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1978Sera from 243 donors belonging to the four main ethnic groups in West Malaysia (Orang Asli, Malays, Chinese and Indians) were tested, using the indirect fluorescent antibody technique for the prevalence of antibodies to Sarcocystis. Almost 20% reacted positively at dilutions of 1:64 or higher and eight among the Orang Asli and Malays gave the highest ...

Are Sarcocystis neurona and Sarcocystis falcatula Synonymous? A Horse Infection Challenge
The Journal of Parasitology, 1999Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a debilitating neurologic disease of the horse. The causative agent. Sarcocystis neurona, has been suggested to be synonymous with Sarcocystis falcatula, implying a role for birds as intermediate hosts. To test this hypothesis, opossums (Didelphis virginiana) were fed muscles containing S.

Ultrastructural differentiation between sarcocysts of Sarcocystis hirsuta and Sarcocystis hominis
Veterinary Parasitology, 1989The ultrastructure of macroscopic (2-7 mm) Sarcocystis hirsuta sarcocysts from naturally infected cattle from New Zealand was compared with the ultrastructure of 222-day-old S. hominis in experimentally infected cattle in the United States. The villar protrusions of S.

Multiple DNA Markers Differentiate Sarcocystis neurona and Sarcocystis falcatula
The Journal of Parasitology, 1999Studies designed to investigate the causative agent of equine protozoal myeloencephalitis and its life cycle have been hampered by the marked similarity of Sarcocystis neurona to other Sarcocystis spp. present in the same definitive host. Random-amplified polymorphic DNA techniques were used to amplify DNA from isolates of S.
