Experimental and Applied Acarology, 2009This paper reviews the occurrence of mites of the infraorder Astigmata in situations involving the legal system, particularly in the area of medicocriminal entomology. Species in the families Acaridae, Lardoglyphidae and Histiostomatidae are encountered in stored food products and in vertebrate carrion, including human remains.

39 species of 13 oribatid mite families were found to inhabit southern border of the arctic and northern border of the typical tundra. Higher abundance of smaller primitive forms was found out, Liochtonius leptaleus Moritz, L. ochnischii Chinone and Brachychtonius pius Moritz are recorded in Russia for the first time.

There are many records of the family Sarcoptidae in bats. The species Notoedres (Notoedres) yunkeri has been reported only once, parasitizing a molossid bat in Panama. In the present study, we expand the occurrence of the species to Brazil.
