Abstract In Turbinaria conoides (J. Agardh) Kutzing, the hapteron, thallus and receptacle meristoderm cells are columnar, polarized and have thick longitudinal walls. In the thallus apical cavity, however, these cells are elongate and possess cap-like structures and thin, longitudinal walls.
