Competitive biosorption of cadmium(II) and zinc(II) ions from binary systems by Sargassum filipendula

Bioresource Technology, 2010
The present work describes our study on the competitive biosorption of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions onto Sargassum filipendula from single component and binary systems. Results showed that S. filipendula was an efficient biosorbent for the removal of Cd(II) and Zn(II) ions from an aqueous solution.

Temporal variation of amphipod assemblages associated with Sargassum filipendula (Phaeophyta) and its epiphytes in a subtropical shore

Aquatic Ecology, 2009
The phytal assemblages change in response to variation in biological and environmental conditions. In the present study, we evaluated the temporal variation of amphipod assemblages associated with a Sargassum filipendula bed in a subtropical shore, in relation to variation of the host alga, its epiphytes and local environmental conditions. Samples of S.

Chromium biosorption using the residue of alginate extraction from Sargassum filipendula

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2014
Abstract The Brazilian brown seaweed Sargassum filipendula was treated for alginate extraction and the residue was used for removing Cr(VI) and Cr(III) from aqueous solutions. The seaweed was characterized in terms of alginate and residue yields. Alginate and residue contents were 17% and 39%, respectively.

Glycolipids from Sargassum filipendula, a Natural Alternative for Overcoming ABC Transporter‐Mediated MDR in Cancer

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2023
AbstractChemotherapy is a widely used strategy to treat cancer, a disease that causes millions of deaths each year. However, its efficacy is reduced by the overexpression of ABC transporters, which are proteins that expel the drugs used in chemotherapy and involved in the multidrug resistance (MDR).

Biosorption of lead ions from the aqueous solution by Sargassum filipendula: Equilibrium and kinetic studies

Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering, 2016
Abstract The removal of Pb +2 ions by Sargassum filipendula was studied using batch process. The biosorbent characterization was carried out by FESEM-EDX and FTIR techniques. Central composite design was used to optimize Pb +2 ions biosorption process by varying four different independent process parameters (temperature, pH, biosorbent dosage ...

Copper and nickel competitive biosorption simulation from single and binary systems by Sargassum filipendula

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2012
Abstract The study focuses on the simulation of dynamic biosorption in single and binary systems containing Cu(II) and Ni(II) ions using Sargassum filipendula (a marine algae). The Langmuir equilibrium models for single and binary systems were used to represent the equilibrium between solid and liquid phases.

Removal of propranolol hydrochloride by batch biosorption using remaining biomass of alginate extraction from Sargassum filipendula algae

Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020
Propranolol hydrochloride is a popular anti-hypertensive and pollutant of emerging concern because of potential ecological risks to aquatic environment. In this study, biosorption is presented as an advanced approach for propranolol uptake from aqueous media. The remaining biomass of alginate extraction from brown seaweed (RSF) was tested as biosorbent

Competitive fixed-bed biosorption of Ag(I) and Cu(II) ions on Sargassum filipendula seaweed waste

Journal of Water Process Engineering, 2020
Abstract The dynamic biosorption of multi-metal samples of copper and silver ions was studied in a fixed-bed column employing an alternative biosorbent derived from brown seaweed. Three sets of assays were performed to investigate (1) the effects of the inlet flow rate and (2) the feed composition of the samples and (3) the selective-ion desorption ...

Nutritional and techno-functional properties of the brown seaweed Sargassum filipendula.

Food research international (Ottawa, Ont.)
With the increasing need to promote healthy and sustainable diets, seaweeds emerge as an environmentally friendly food source, offering a promising alternative for food production. The aim of this study was to characterize the brown seaweed Sargassum filipendula from the coast of São Paulo, Brazil, regarding its nutritional and techno-functional ...
