Sargassum filipendula merupakan rumput laut coklat yang tumbuh di perairan pantai Binuangeun (Kabupaten Lebak, Provinsi Banten) yang potensial digunakan sebagai bahan baku alginat. Untuk memaksimalkan kandungan alginatnya diperlukan suatu penanganan pascapanen agar kadar dan mutu alginat dapat dipertahankan sebelum diekstraksi.
