The protective effect of sulfated polysaccharides (PS-4) isolated from Sargassum thunbergii against oxidative stress in cells and zebrafish was investigated. To begin, a variety of enzymatic extraction methods were used, including five carbohydrases and four proteases. Among the enzymatic extracts, the S.

Two New Monogalactosyl Diacylglycerols from Brown Alga Sargassum thunbergii
Lipids, 2007AbstractTwo new monogalactosyl diacylglycerols (MGDGs) along with two known glycolipids were isolated from the moderate polar fraction of the methanolic extract of the brown alga Sargassum thunbergii by using reversed silica flash chromatography.

Thunberol, a new sterol from the Chinese brown alga Sargassum thunbergii
Journal of Asian Natural Products Research, 2014A new sterol, named thunberol (1), along with four known analogs, 24-ethylcholesta-4,24(28)-dien-3-one (2), stigmasta-5,28-dien-3β-ol (3), cholesta-5,14-dien-3β-ol (4), and cholesta-5,23-dien-3β,25-diol (5), were isolated from the brown alga Sargassum thunbergii collected from East China Sea.

Reactive Oxygen Scavenging Effect of Enzymatic Extracts from Sargassum thunbergii
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2005The free radical scavenging activity of water soluble natural antioxidants from Sargassum thunbergii, which is a brown marine alga, was evaluated by examining the radical scavenging activities of the extracts of hydrolyzates from S. thunbergii on hydroxyl, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and alkyl radicals. A spin-trapping electron spin resonance

Trade-off between vegetative regeneration and sexual reproduction of Sargassum thunbergii
Hydrobiologia, 2011An ecological demographic study was conducted from January to December 2009 at Changshan Island on the northern side of Shandong Peninsula, China. The study investigated stem regeneration and the resource trade-off between sexual reproduction and vegetative regeneration of the brown alga Sargassum thunbergii at the individual thallus level.

Identification of the toxic compounds produced by Sargassum thunbergii to red tide microalgae
Chinese Journal of Oceanology and Limnology, 2012The inhibitory effects of methanol extracts from the tissues of three macroalgal species on the growths of three marine red tide microalgae were assessed under laboratory conditions. Extracts of Sargassum thunbergii (Mertens ex Roth) Kuntz tissue had stronger inhibitory effects than those of either Sargassum pallidum (Turner) C.

Photoacclimation characteristics of Sargassum thunbergii germlings under different light intensities
Journal of Applied Phycology, 2014The photosynthesis and growth responses of Sargassum thunbergii germlings to different light intensities (10, 60, and 300 μmol photons m−2 s−1) were investigated. Maximum photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm), rapid light curves (RLCs), and photochemical and non-photochemical quenching (qP and NPQ) were estimated by a pulse amplitude-modulated fluorometer ...

Monthly variations of polysaccharides from Sargassum thunbergii and their anti-complement and anti-tumour activities were investigated. It was observed that an increase in fucose and total sugar contents occurred during the growth period (from early April to mid-June), accompanied by a decrease in molar ratios of other monosaccharides to fucose.

Marine Genomics, 2016
The brown algal species Sargassum thunbergii (Fucales, Phaeophyceae) is widely distributed in coastal area of East Asia. This alga is ecologically and economically important seaweeds; however, no genome data was reported thus far. To get a better understanding of organellar genome of S. thunbergii, we sequenced and annotated its complete plastid genome.

Polysaccharides derived from Sargassum thunbergii were prepared to investigate the structure-activity relationship between polysaccharides and anti-tumor activity in vitro. Many factors were examined. Overall, STW (polysaccharide extracted by hot water) had the best activity, followed by STJ (polysaccharide extracted by dilute alkali), and then STA ...
