Preexisting and de novo humoral immunity to SARS-CoV-2 in humans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Zoonotic introduction of novel coronaviruses may encounter preexisting immunity in humans. Using diverse assays for antibodies recognizing SARS-CoV-2 proteins, we detect preexisting humoral immunity.

Fluorinated Graphene‐Coated N95 Respirators for Enhanced Protection against Viral Accumulation and Transmission

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a one‐step spray coating approach to coat the fluorinated graphene (FG) nanosheet onto the N95 respirators. The spray‐coated superhydrophobic N95 respirators can effectively repel respiratory droplets off instantaneously and prevent SARS‐CoV‐2 virus accumulation on the surface.

Follow-up SARS-CoV-2 serological study of a health care worker cohort following COVID-19 booster vaccination

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Studies have shown that Omicron breakthrough infections can occur at higher SARS-CoV-2 antibody levels compared to previous variants. Estimating the magnitude of immunological protection induced from COVID-19 vaccination and previous infection

Genomic Sequencing and Phylogenomics of Cowpox Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2022
Cowpox virus (CPXV; genus Orthopoxvirus; family Poxviridae) is the causative agent of cowpox, a self-limiting zoonotic infection. CPXV is endemic in Eurasia, and human CPXV infections are associated with exposure to infected animals. In the Fennoscandian

Machine Learning‐Enabled Polymer Discovery for Enhanced Pulmonary siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study provides an efficient approach to train a machine learning model by merging heterogeneous literature data to predict suitable polymers for siRNA delivery. Without the need for extensive laboratory synthesis, the machine learning enabled a virtual screening and successfully predicted a polymer that is validated for effective gene silencing in

Genomics and epidemiology of the P.1 SARS-CoV-2 lineage in Manaus, Brazil

open access: yesScience, 2021
Unmitigated spread in Brazil Despite an extensive network of primary care availability, Brazil has suffered profoundly during the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic. Using daily data from state health offices, Castro et

Droplet evaporation residue indicating SARS-COV-2 survivability on surfaces

open access: yes, 2020
SARS-CoV-2 survives and remains viable on surfaces for several days under different environments as reported in recent studies. However, it is unclear how the viruses survive for such a long time and why their survivability varies across different ...

Perfusable Brain Microvascular Network‐On‐Chip Model to Study Flavivirus NS1‐Induced Endothelial Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a microfluidic brain microvascular network‐on‐chip (BMVasChip) to investigate endothelial barrier dysfunction caused by flavivirus non‐structural protein 1 (NS1), including virus‐ and time‐dependent vascular damage, leakiness, and dysfunction.
