Estimating Ice Cover on the Great Lakes Using Seismic Ambient Noise
Abstract Lake ice impacts seismic noise on nearby seismometers, and therefore seismic observations can be used to monitor ice changes. However, the transfer function describing how lake‐microseism noise covaries with ice cover has not been quantified.

Report of the panel on geopotential fields: Gravity field, section 8 [PDF]
The objective of the Geopotential Panel was to develop a program of data acquisition and model development for the Earth's gravity and magnetic fields that meet the basic science requirements of the solid Earth and ocean studies.

Undersea volcano production versus lithospheric strength from satellite altimetry [PDF]
All seamount signatures apparent in the SEASAT altimeter profiles were located and digitized. In addition to locating the seamount signatures, their amplitudes were also estimated. The second phase consisted of determining what basic characteristics of a

Dynamic compensation in the central Pacific Ocean [PDF]
The intermediate-wavelength geoid (lambda similar to 2000 km) and sea-floor topography fields in the central Pacific Ocean were studied in terms of static and dynamic compensation models.

Shape of the ocean surface and implications for the Earth's interior: GEOS-3 results [PDF]
A new set of 1 deg x 1 deg mean free air anomalies was used to construct a gravimetric geoid by Stokes' formula for the Indian Ocean. Utilizing such 1 deg x 1 deg geoid comparisons were made with GEOS-3 radar altimeter estimates of geoid height.

A composite map produced by combining 90 passes of SST data show good agreement with conventional GEM models. The SEASAT altimeter data were deduced and found to agree with both the SST and GEM fields. The maps are dominated (especially in the east) by a
