A Comparison of Satellite Drag Measurement Techniques

1970
The effect of atmospheric drag on a satellite makes it possible to measure atmospheric density. Two approaches have been proposed: (1) Accelerometers may be mounted in the satellite to measure the vehicle acceleration which, together with the satellite mass, determines the drag force; (2) Alternatively, a drag-free satellite control system may be used.
