Formation Flying of Satellites with G-MPSP Guidance

AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Conference, 2013
Using the recently developed generalized model predictive static programming (GMPSP) technique, a suboptimal guidance logic is proposed in this paper for formation flying of satellites. Unlike many available techniques, the proposed guidance scheme is valid both for high eccentricity chief satellite orbits as well as large separation distance between ...

Adaptive nonlinear control of satellite formation flying

Guidance, Navigation, and Control Conference and Exhibit, 1999
This paper considers the problem of relative position control for multiple satellite for- mation flying (MSFF). Specifically, the full nonlin- ear dynamics describing the relative positioning of MSFF are used to develop a Lyapunov-based, non- linear adaptive control law that guarantees global asymptotic convergence of the position tracking er- ror in ...

An orbital design method for satellite formation flying

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2006
An orbital design method of the formation initialization based on the relative orbital element method is presented. It firstly constructed the relative motion equation of the satellite formation flying in terms of the leader and followers’ orbital elements.

Adaptive Dynamic Inversion for Satellite Formation Flying

2021
The benefit of satellite formation flying can truly be realized with greater mission flexibility such as higher inter-satellite separation, formation in elliptic orbits, etc. However, under the above-enhanced conditions, linear system dynamics based control design approaches fail to achieve the desired objectives.

Satellite formation flying via lyapunov stabilization

2007 International Conference on Control, Automation and Systems, 2007
This paper presents a control scheme for satellite formation flying based on Lyapunov stabilization. It is assumed that the angular rate and angular acceleration of true anomaly are not known, but they are bounded. In such a case, the control law proposed in this paper guarantees asymptotical convergence of the states to the desired values.

Autonomous control system for satellite formation flying

IEE Seminar on Autonomous Agents in Control, 2005
Recently there has been an increase of interest in the concept of satellite formation flying due to the efficiency gains that can be obtained from using a large number of small crafts instead of one large one. In formation flying it is required that the satellites should fly in specified positions relative to the others and with specified attitudes ...

Collision Avoidance for Satellites in Formation Flying

2020
According to later reports there are more than 18000 artificial satellites in space, with more than 35000 objects larger than 10cm and another million objects large enough to cause serious damage to the satellites. With so many potentially dangerous objects in an orbit around the surface of the earth, a collision-avoidance system becomes often ...

Orion: A Micro Satellite Testbed for Formation Flying

1998
A revolution in spacecraft guidance, navigation and control technology has started with GPS to autonomously provide spacecraft position, attitude and time information. This new technology is being applied to spacecraft constellations to achieve the precision formation flying required for many proposed science and commercial missions.
