Tilted Dark Halos Are Common and Long-lived, and Can Warp Galactic Disks
In the Lambda cold dark matter paradigm, the dark halo governs the gravitational potential within which a galaxy can form and evolve. In this Letter we show that the present-day inner ( r < 50 kpc) dark halo can be significantly misaligned with the ...

The distribution of satellite galaxies: the great pancake [PDF]
The 11 known satellite galaxies within 250 kpc of the Milky Way lie close to a great circle on the sky. We use high resolution N-body simulations of galactic dark matter halos to test if this remarkable property can be understood within the context of the cold dark matter cosmology.

The abundance of satellite galaxies is set by the hierarchical assembly of their host halo. We leverage this to investigate the low-mass end ( M _H < 10 ^11 M _⊙ ) of the stellar-to-halo mass relation (SHMR), which is key to constraining theories of ...

Both the Milky Way and the Andromeda galaxy are known to host highly flattened planes of satellite galaxies. These display coherent kinematics, which is consistent with many of their satellite galaxies co-orbiting along the structures. In addition, we recently discovered that a similar satellite structure around Centaurus A also shows coherent ...

Planes of satellite galaxies and the cosmic web [PDF]
Recent observational studies have demonstrated that the majority of satellite galaxies tend to orbit their hosts on highly flattened, vast, possibly co-rotating planes. Two nearly parallel planes of satellites have been confirmed around the M31 galaxy and around the Centaurus A galaxy, while the Milky Way also sports a plane of satellites.

Effects of Galactic Irradiation on Thermal and Electronic Transport in Tungsten
This atomic‐scale study reveals how low‐to‐mid‐energy space irradiation alters tungsten's thermal and electronic behavior, even at low defect levels. Focusing on vacancy sites in bulk and near grain boundaries, it employs two novel approaches: site‐projected thermal conductivity and the N2$^{2}$ method for the thermal and electronic response analysis ...

Impact of the Cosmic Web on the Properties of Galaxies in IllustrisTNG Simulations
We investigate the influence of the cosmic web on galaxy properties in the IllustrisTNG simulations. To disentangle the effects of galaxy groups and cosmic filaments, we divide the cosmic web environment into four categories: group, group-dominated ...

Prioritized Real‐Time UAV‐Based Vessel Detection for Efficient Maritime Search
ABSTRACT Real‐time vessel detection in maritime environments is crucial for diverse applications requiring speed and accuracy. Static camera views often introduce blind spots, compromising detection efficiency. This paper proposes a novel, real‐time UAV‐based system that uses a dynamic camera control strategy to address this limitation.

ABSTRACT This research evaluates the adoption of Sustainability‐Oriented Innovations (SOIs) by UK food manufacturers, particularly in the palm oil sector. Despite the global palm oil industry's environmental and social impacts, such as deforestation and labour exploitation, empirical studies on SOIs are limited. This paper addressed this gap by mapping
