Oriented zinc oxide nanorods: A novel saturable absorber for lasers in the near-infrared
Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods (NRs) oriented along the crystallographic [001] axis are grown by the hydrothermal method on glass substrates. The ZnO NRs exhibit a broadband (1–2 µm) near-IR absorption ascribed to the singly charged zinc vacancy VZn−1.

Quantification of nonlinear absorption in ternary As-Sb-Se chalcogenide glasses
In this article, we studied intensity dependent third order nonlinear optical response in ternary As40Sb7Se53 and As40Sb10Se50 chalcogenide glasses by employing nanosecond Z-scan technique.

Laser mode-locking with saturable absorbers [PDF]
In this paper we describe a mode-locked laser in terms of traveling pulses of light. We show that the energy absorbed by a saturable absorber is a minimum if the pulselength is a minimum, and that two pulses are essentially as favorable as one if they ...

Passively Q-switched 2.79-μm Er, Cr: YSGG laser based on pure water saturable absorber
Exploring suitable saturable absorber materials for the 2.79 μm waveband is always a focus in passive Q-switching laser technology. Pure water exhibits excellent fluidity, high chemical stability, and outstanding thermal properties; notably, its recovery

Graphene mode locked, wavelength-tunable, dissipative soliton fiber laser
Atomic layer graphene possesses wavelength-insensitive ultrafast saturable absorption, which can be exploited as a full-band mode locker. Taking advantage of the wide band saturable absorption of the graphene, we demonstrate experimentally that wide ...

Presence of fast quenching mechanisms in Al2O3:Er3+ [PDF]
The measurement of luminescence decay curves and non-saturable absorption in erbium-doped aluminum oxide waveguides reveals the presence of fast quenching effects, leading to a revised value of the microscopic and macroscopic parameters of energy ...

Saturated absorption competition microscopy
We introduce the concept of saturated absorption competition (SAC) microscopy as a means of providing sub-diffraction spatial resolution in fluorescence imaging. Unlike the post-competition process between stimulated and spontaneous emission that is used in stimulated emission depletion (STED) microscopy, SAC microscopy breaks the diffraction limit by ...
