Adjusting Cell‐Surface Interactions Through a Covalent Immobilization of Biomolecules
This review presents an overview of current and emerging immobilization techniques coupled with an in‐depth investigation of the underlying mechanisms governing the activity and stability of covalently immobilized biomolecules. The aim of this study is to serve as a guide for the development of long‐lasting biomedical coatings with versatile biological

Altered lipid homeostasis (obesity) is linked to inflammation and defective insulin signaling. In the presence of palmitic acid (PA), but not oleic acid (OA), lipopolysaccharide (LPS)‐stimulated macrophages activate the NLRP3 inflammasome, secreting augmented levels of Interleukin (IL)‐1β and IL‐18 (Nat Immunol12:408). We hypothesized that lowering the

The Impact of DNA as a Chemical Admixture for Cementitious Materials
DNA molecules are added to cement pastes and their effects on rheology and hydration time are studied. DNA's chemical structure is composed of polysaccharide and phosphate groups, which are active functional groups in different commercial chemical admixtures: Viscosity modifiers and superplasticizers.

Postprandial serum endotoxin in healthy humans is modulated by dietary fat in a randomized, controlled, cross-over study [PDF]
Background: High-fat diets may contribute to metabolic disease via postprandial changes in serum endotoxin and inflammation. It is unclear how dietary fat composition may alter these parameters.

A porous crystalline sensing layer has been developed in conjunction with a nanomechanical sensor for the sensitive detection of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) in admixture at high relative humidity. The sensitive, selective sensor based on supramolecular design improves the economic viability of anaerobic digesters toward a carbon neutral society ...

Dietary ethanol is associated with reduced lipolysis of intestinally derived lipoproteins.
An acute oral fat load produces transient lipemia that is enhanced by the simultaneous ingestion of ethanol. This phenomenon has been reinvestigated in six normal subjects who consumed three different fat loads with and without ethanol.

NUTRITION INFORMATION AND HOUSEHOLD DIETARY FAT INTAKE [PDF]
An endogenous switching regression model is used to examine how meal planner health knowledge affects dietary fat intake. Ethnicity, income, meal planner age, being on a low-fat diet, and other health awareness behaviors had significant effects on health
