Towards predicting the soil-specific threshold electrolyte concentration of soil as a reduction in saturated hydraulic conductivity: the role of clay net negative charge

open access: yes, 2019
The use of marginal quality water with saline and dispersive properties is set to become more prevalent in agricultural production given demands on freshwater resources.

Preparation and Performance Evaluation of a Self‐Generated Particle Plugging Agent Based on Thermosetting Resin

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A thermosetting in situ curing resin microsphere system has been developed. It has controllable phase transition time and particle size. This system addresses the current challenges of low strength, shear susceptibility, and short phase transition time in polymer microsphere blockers and thermoplastic particle blockers.

Comparison of different methods for determining saturated hydraulic conductivity

open access: yes, 2004
Soil saturated hydraulic conductivity is an important parameter for flow and transport related processes in the soil but the different methods of its measurement vary under different field conditions.

Experimental Study on the Enhancement of Heat Transfer Performance in Sintered‐Core Heat Pipes Using CuO Nanofluid

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study presents the design and construction of an experimental system for evaluating the thermal performance of heat pipes, using sintered‐wick heat pipes charged with CuO nanofluids. The device used in this study is a sintered‐wick heat pipe, in which the liquid return is driven by capillary forces within the porous wick structure.

Constructing a saturated hydraulic conductivity map of Spain using pedotransfer functions and spatial predictions

open access: yes, 2004
Currently, most of the research focused on general pedotransfer functions (PTFs) has been generated under humid climatic conditions. Nevertheless, this article proposes an estimation of pedotransfer functions for a great variety of climatic and ...

Real‐time monitoring of root dielectric properties for assessing crop plant damage caused by foliar application of glyphosate

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise There is a knowledge gap regarding how foliar injury and restricted water uptake can be detected by measuring root dielectric response. This pot study nondestructively evaluated the efficiency of real‐time dielectric measurement to monitor the effects of glyphosate spraying.

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Optimizing Strategies for Non‐Invasive Prospection of Settlements in the Intertidal Zone: A Case Study From the Centre of the Drowned Medieval Village of Tolsende (Scheldt Estuary, the Netherlands)

open access: yesArchaeological Prospection, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Medieval and early modern drowned villages in the intertidal zone of the Scheldt estuary (the Netherlands) constitute intriguing yet largely understudied components of north‐western Europe's underwater cultural heritage. Despite their high archaeological potential as time capsules of past settlement landscapes, research has remained limited ...

Impact of Distillation Column Design on Potential for the Integration of Mechanical Vapor Recompression

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, EarlyView.
Mechanical vapor recompression integration in distillation is analyzed, focusing on feed preheating and column pressure drop. Binary methanol–water and benzene–toluene separations are studied to identify optimal designs, which are further assessed in a bioethanol vacuum distillation sequence regarding energetic, ecological, and economic performance ...
