Temperature effects on the swelling pressure and saturated hydraulic conductivity of the compacted GMZ01 bentonite

open access: yes, 2013
International audienceUsing a newly developed apparatus, swelling pressure tests and saturated hydraulic conductivity tests on the compacted Gao-Miao-Zi (GMZ01) bentonite with an initial dry density of 1.7 Mg/m(3) were conducted at various temperatures ...

A Compact Hollow Fiber Electrode Assembly Architecture for Continuous Electrochemical Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A coaxial, membrane‐integrated hollow fiber electrode assembly (HFEA) is developed for continuous marine carbon mineralization. By utilizing a sub‐millimeter inter‐electrode gap, the HFEA minimizes Ohmic losses, achieving 50% energy reduction and over 85% DIC removal.

Assessment of clogging in constructed wetlands by saturated hydraulic conductivity measurements [PDF]

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 2019
Abstract This study aims at defining a methodology to evaluate Ks reductions of gravel material constituting constructed wetland (CW) bed matrices. Several schemes and equations for the Lefranc's test were compared by using different gravel sizes and at multiple spatial scales.

Modeling the separation of water‐in‐oil emulsions in continuously fed gravity settlers using millifluidic experiments

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Emulsion separation remains a persistent challenge in chemical and process industries due to the metastable nature of dispersed droplets. In gravity separators, the overall separation rate is governed by the formation of a densely packed zone (DPZ) of deforming and coalescing droplets that mediates between the dispersed and continuous phases ...

A Computational Approach for Biomimetic Design of Liver‐On‐A‐Chip

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
A biomimetic liver‐on‐a‐chip with antiparallel perfusion was designed using COMSOL‐guided simulation to replicate hepatic acinus transport. Full‐scale modelling revealed diffusion‐dominated, length‐dependent nutrient gradients and low‐shear conditions.

Development of Pedotransfer Functions for Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity

open access: yesOpen Journal of Modern Hydrology, 2013
The purpose of the study was to develop pedotransfer functions for determining saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks). Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) for predicting soil physical properties used in determining saturated hydraulic conductivity, based on moisture retention characteristics, were developed.

Sustainable Palm Oil Extraction and Trends in the Use of Green Technologies: State‐of‐the‐Art and Future Directions

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Palm oil, which is extracted from the mesocarp of the fruit of the Elaeis guineensis Jacq. palm tree, is the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world. The extraction of this substance typically utilizes the conventional pressing method, a technique that is advantageous due to its low operating cost and simplified process.

Influence of soil particle shape on saturated hydraulic conductivity

open access: yes, 2017
The aim of this paper is to define the correlation between the geometry of grains and saturated hydraulic conductivity of soils. The particle shape characteristics were described by the ζ0C index (Parylak, 2000), which expresses the variability of ...

Optimized Selenium‐Doped Nanocomposites for Enhanced Polymer Gel Performance in Permeability Reduction

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Excessive water production in mature oil fields necessitates robust shut‐off treatments, yet conventional polymer gels often fail under high‐temperature and high‐salinity conditions. This study aims to enhance gel thermal stability and mechanical strength by incorporating selenium‐doped Ag/AgO–ZnO nanocomposites synthesized via a novel green ...
