The Effect of Entrapped Air on the Quasi‐Saturated Soil Hydraulic Conductivity and Comparison with the Unsaturated Hydraulic Conductivity

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2005
Entrapped air can greatly affect the hydraulic conductivity at or near saturation. In this study, we measured the hydraulic conductivity and volume of entrapped air in a quasi‐saturated soil. Two soils, a Masa sandy loam soil from weathered granite rock and a TUAT light clay andisol from volcanic ash, were used.

Automation of the measurement of time record in determining the hydraulic conductivity of saturated soil [PDF]

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental, 2022
The objective of this study was to automate the acquisition of water travel time, as well as the computation of hydraulic conductivity of saturated soil by the falling head method, using water sensors and the Arduino platform. To automate the measurement

Quantifying the aggregation-dispersion boundary condition in terms of saturated hydraulic conductivity reduction and the threshold electrolyte concentration

open access: yes, 2018
Marginal quality saline sodic water will be important for agricultural production in water limited environments, and has been demonstrated as suitable for irrigation on a soil-specific basis.

Variability of saturated hydraulic conductivities in the agriculturallycultivated soils [PDF]

open access: yesSoil and Water Research, 2009
The knowledge of the moisture conditions in a variably saturated zone of soil and their management is one of the main possibilities that allow the agronomists to raise significantly the fertility of soils. A progressive scientific method for describing the moisture conditions in a variably saturated zone uses a numerical simulation on a mathematical ...

A Comparison and Validation of Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity Models [PDF]

open access: yesWater, 2020
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ksat) is fundamental to shallow groundwater processes. There is an ongoing need for observed and model validated Ksat values. A study was initiated in a representative catchment of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed in the Northeast USA, to collect observed Ksat and validate five Ksat pedotransfer functions.

Exploring the variation in soil saturated hydraulic conductivity under a tropical rainforest using the wavelet transform

open access: yes, 2011
Saturated hydraulic conductivity (Ks) of the soil is a key variable in the water cycle. For the humid tropics, information about spatial scales of Ks and their relation to soil types deduced from soil map units is of interest, as soil maps are often the ...

Saturated soil hydraulic conductivity and its determinants in grassland with varying levels of desertification in Northwest Liaoning Province

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao
【Background and Objective】 The arid and semi-arid regions in Northwest Liaoning Province are characterized by low precipitation and high evaporation, leading to desertification, soil erosion and degradation.

HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY OF ESSENTIALLY SATURATED PEAT [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The Savannah River National Laboratory measured the hydraulic conductivity of peat samples using method ASTM D4511-00. Four samples of peat were packed into 73mm diameter plastic tubes and saturated from the bottom up with water. The columns were packed with Premier ProMoss III TBK peat to a dry density of approximately 0.16 gm/cc (10 lb/ft3).

Modification of the McNeal clay swelling model improves prediction of saturated hydraulic conductivity as a function of applied water quality

open access: yes, 2013
A review of the McNeal clay swelling model, including its underpinning assumptions and the method for determining its parameters, was undertaken. Limitations of the model include model parameter identification, the fixed threshold exchangeable sodium ...

Assessing Water Infiltration and Soil Water Repellency in Brazilian Atlantic Forest Soils

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
This study presents the results of the soil hydraulic characterization performed under three land covers, namely pasture, 9-year-old restored forest, and remnant forest, in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest.
