2D benchmark experiments and simulations of density coupled flow problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Variations of fluid densities can alter flow patterns and transport processes, if solute concentration differences are high enough to cause relevant density contrasts.

Identifying and characterising a plant GH1 β‐glucosidase that exhibits hydrolytic activity on N‐linked glucopyranoside

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We report the first β‐glucosidase with demonstrated hydrolytic activity on an N‐linked glycopyranoside. The enzyme, native to maize, was biochemically characterised for this novel reaction, and structural modelling of the enzyme–substrate complex revealed several clues to the underlying reduced catalytic rate relative to its native O‐glycopyranoside ...

The effect of hydrate content on seismic attenuation: A case study for Mallik 2L-38 well data, Mackenzie delta, Canada

open access: yes, 2004
Observations of velocities in sediments containing gashydrates show that the strength of sediments increases with hydrate saturation. Hence it is expected that the attenuation of these sediments will decrease with increasing hydrate saturation.

Purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 for phase separation studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe detailed protocols for the purification and preparation of Marchantia polymorpha Auxin Response Factor 2 (MpARF2). This protein is fused to an MBP solubility tag and an mNG fluorescent tag and is purified from Escherichia coli. The presented procedures make it possible to study MpARF2 assemblies, which could arise from phase separation ...

Combined effects of heterogeneity, anisotropy, and saturation on steady state flow and transport: A laboratory sand tank experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Field soils show rather different spreading behavior at different water saturations, frequently caused by layering of the soil material. We performed tracer experiments in a laboratory sand tank.

De novo synthesis of short‐chain aldehydes and hydrocarbons secreted by the brown marmorated stink bug Halyomorpha halys

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys, mainly secretes 4‐oxo‐(E)‐2‐hexenal, (E)‐2‐decenal, dodecane and tridecane, a mixture representative of that released by many heteropterans. We demonstrated that H. halys can synthesise these secretory components de novo using dietary glucose.

Distribution and flow of methane and water in kaolinite nanoslits [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Advances
Inorganic mineral pores in coal are highly effective conduits for the transport of methane and water but are primary sites for water blocking. Current research on methane/water two-phase flow in coal focuses on pores in organic matter, and few studies ...

Heterotropic regulation and negative homotropic cooperativity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We identified a structural module common to some proteins that couple negative cooperativity with heterotropic regulation, two features that rarely coexist. These proteins are ring‐like and present an ordered asymmetry whereby noncontacting subunits are symmetric, and their tertiary structure differs from that of contacting subunits.

Structural and biochemical insights into the thermostable esterase Ta0887 from Thermoplasma acidophilum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, a novel esterase from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Thermoplasma acidophilum was biochemically and structurally characterized. Our results demonstrate that Ta0887 is a highly thermostable esterase that preferentially hydrolyzes p‐nitrophenyl hexanoate and possesses an α‐helical cap domain that likely contributes to its substrate ...

IMPROVEMENT OF TRAFFIC CAPACITY FOR AL-MUSTAINSIRIYAH INTERSECTION IN BAGHDAD CITY

open access: yesAl-Qadisiyah Journal for Engineering Science, 2012
Capacity and level of service are the control points of the analysis of intersections and must be fully considered to evaluate the overall operator of the intersection.
