Aeolization on the Atlantic coast of Galicia (NW Spain) from the end of the last glacial period to the present day: Chronology, origin and evolution of coastal dunes linked to sea‐level oscillations

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 48, Issue 1, Page 198-214, January 2023., 2023
The Atlantic coast of NW Spain, where shingle beaches appear today, has suffered an important mobilization of dunes from a sea level about −120 m (bpsl), 20 ky ago. This aeolization caused the collapse of coastal/fluvial ecosystems (as forests) until the Late Holocene.

Crystal Structure and Magnetism of Fe1−xTe (x=0.31)

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 648, Issue 23, December 13, 2022., 2022
Abstract Reaction of iron‐tellurium mixtures in the composition range from Fe0.41Te0.59 to Fe0.43Te0.57 followed by quenching to ambient temperature yields the high‐temperature δ phase Fe1−xTe (0.25

Li16Sr6Ge6N, Li16Sr6Ge6.5 and related lithium alkaline‐earth metal tetrelides: Alternative filling of voids by nitride or tetrelide ions

open access: yesZeitschrift für anorganische und allgemeine Chemie, Volume 648, Issue 23, December 13, 2022., 2022
Abstract Large black single crystals with a metallic luster of Li16Sr6Ge6N and several other representatives of the series Li16Ae6Tt6N and Li16Ae6Tt6.5 (Ae=Ca, Sr; Tt=Si, Ge, Sn, Pb) were grown from mixtures of the respective elements with addition of binary alkaline‐earth metal nitrides or lithium nitride in the case of the nitrides. For the synthesis

The past and future obliquity of Saturn as Titan migrates [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 647, A92 (2021), 2021
Aims: It has recently been shown that the fast migration of Titan could be responsible for the current 26.7{\deg}-tilt of Saturn's spin axis. We aim to quantify the level of generality of this result and to measure the most likely sets of parameters. We also aim to determine the obliquity that Saturn will reach in the future.

Centaur 2013 VZ70: Debris from Saturn's irregular moon population? [PDF]

open access: yesA&A 657, A59 (2022), 2021
Context. Saturn has an excess of irregular moons. This is thought to be the result of past collisional events. Debris produced during such episodes in the neighborhood of a host planet can evolve into co-orbitals trapped in quasi-satellite and/or horseshoe resonant states.

Searching for Saturn's X-rays during a rare Jupiter Magnetotail Crossing using Chandra [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Every 19 years, Saturn passes through Jupiter's 'flapping' magnetotail. Here, we report Chandra X-ray observations of Saturn planned to coincide with this rare planetary alignment and to analyse Saturn's magnetospheric response when transitioning to this unique parameter space.

Pressure‐Driven Reactivity in Dense Methane‐Nitrogen Mixtures

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
CH4 and N2 are abundant molecules in our solar system and are the primary constituents of Titan's atmosphere. Under extreme pressures and temperatures within a diamond anvil cell, CH4 and N2 are demonstrated to react to form a range of compounds, dependent on the conditions and initial concentrations.

Chandra Observation of an X-ray Flare at Saturn: Evidence for Direct Solar Control on Saturn's Disk X-ray Emissions [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophys.J. 624 (2005) L121-L124, 2005
Saturn was observed by Chandra ACIS-S on 20 and 26-27 January 2004 for one full Saturn rotation (10.7 hr) at each epoch. We report here the first observation of an X-ray flare from Saturn's non-auroral (low-latitude) disk, which is seen in direct response to an M6-class flare emanating from a sunspot that was clearly visible from both Saturn and Earth.

Origin and Evolution of Saturn's Ring System [PDF]

open access: yes''Saturn After Cassini-Huygen'' Saturn from Cassini-Huygens, Dougherty, M.K.; Esposito, L.W.; Krimigis, S.M. (Ed.) (2009) 537-575, 2009
The origin and long-term evolution of Saturn's rings is still an unsolved problem in modern planetary science. In this chapter we review the current state of our knowledge on this long-standing question for the main rings (A, Cassini Division, B, C), the F Ring, and the diffuse rings (E and G).

Charged Grains In Saturn's F-Ring: Interaction With Saturn's Magnetic Field [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Saturn's dynamic F-Ring still presents a challenge for understanding and explaining the kinematic processes that lead to the changing structure visible in our observations of this ring. This study examines the effect of Saturn's magnetic field on the dynamics of micron-sized grains that may become electrically charged due to interaction with plasma in ...
