Sociability Under Anthropogenic Change: From Individual Behaviour to Population‐Level Consequences

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Our review synthesises empirical and theoretical research on how anthropogenic environmental change reshapes animal social behaviour from individuals to populations. We use sociability as an individual‐level lens, distinguishing context‐dependent expression from repeatable interindividual differences and linking both to social relationships, network ...

Sustainable Landscaping and Sustainability Education on a College Campus: A Case Study in Place‐Based, Collaborative Ecosystem Science

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This article presents a case study in place‐based, collaborative ecosystem science at Macalester College. We describe a successful partnership between academic departments, the sustainability office, and facilities services to assess the benefits of converting campus turfgrass to native plantings.

Dual‐Locus Metabarcoding Reveals Dry‐Season Dietary Differentiation Between Elephants and Impalas in a South African Savanna

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
We applied dual‐locus DNA metabarcoding to compare dry‐season diets of African elephants and impalas in a South African savanna. Despite similar dietary diversity, the two species differed substantially in dietary composition, with differentiation associated with fine‐scale taxonomic differences rather than overall dietary breadth.

Climatic rainfall regime shapes energy flow, trophic structure, and secondary production in streams

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Changes in precipitation patterns linked to climate change have profound implications for the structuring and functioning of riverine ecosystems. This study investigates how rainfall influences secondary production by examining nine rivers across a sharp natural rainfall gradient over 3 years.

Variation among populations of Quercus macrocarpa in a reciprocal transplant experiment across a latitudinal gradient

open access: yesEcology, Volume 107, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Ongoing climate change will negatively impact tree populations unless they are able to acclimate to the changes in their local environment. Effective planning for climate adaptation management requires an understanding of the current state of local adaptation and physiological performance to assess whether populations are at risk of local ...
