Size and sign of time savings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
INTRODUCTION The conventional approach in the U.K. has been to value all travel time changes at a constant rate regardless of their size or direction. This ‘constant unit value’ approach was supported by the 1980-86 UK DoT Value of Time Study (MVA/

Integration of circadian and hypoxia signaling via non‐canonical heterodimerization

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CLOCK, BMAL1, and HIFs are basic helix‐loop‐helix and Per‐Arnt‐Sim domain (bHLH‐PAS) proteins, which function as transcription factors. bHLH‐PAS proteins are designated in two classes. Many class I proteins are regulated by environmental signals via their PAS domains, but such signals have not been identified for all.

Demographic Determinants of Savings: Estimating and Interpreting the Aggregate Association in Asia [PDF]

open access: yes
Life cycle savings is proposed as one explanation for much of the increase in savings and economic growth in Asia. The association between the age composition of a nation's population and its savings rate, observed within 16 Asian countries from 1952 to ...

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

Assessment of Economic Security of Households Based on a Scenario Analysis

open access: yesEconomies, 2019
The article proposes a method to assess the level of economic security, based on the analysis of scenarios of future events. These scenarios cover realistically possible combinations of future events, both positive and negative, allowing for an ...

Cost-Savings of Implementing Site-Specific Ground Motion Response Analysis in Design of Mississippi Embayment Bridges [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Deep dynamic site characterization and a site-specific ground motion response analysis (SSGMRA) were conducted for a bridge site in Monette, Arkansas.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Worker remittances and government behaviour in the receiving countries [PDF]

open access: yesEastern Journal of European Studies, 2012
We estimate the impact of worker remittances on savings, taxes, and public expenditures on education, all as a share of GDP, for two samples of poor and less poor countries. Remittances increase the savings ratio in both samples.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Retirement Savings Portfolio Management [PDF]

open access: yes
We assess the welfare implications of alternative retirement plan investment options given that households may not invest according to optimal portfolio choice theory but may instead use simple decision rules.
