Evaluation of a Horizontal Savonius

Transactions of the ASAE, 1984
ABSTRACT HORIZONTAL and vertical Savonius systems were modeled and wind tunnel tests were conducted. Roof pitch, wind incidence angle, and rotor positioning were varied. The effect of system orientation and wind direction on power output was studied. Optimally oriented, the horizontal Savonius system demonstrated up to a 99% increase in overall power ...

CFD Analysis for Combination Savonius and Darrieus Turbine with Differences in the Number of Savonius Turbine Blades

2021 International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Mechatronics Systems (AIMS), 2021
Many countries have realized the importance of using renewable energy sources as a substitute for nonrenewable energy. Indonesia has relatively small wind energy potential due to its geographic location, which is located on the equator. Its utilization target is to find areas with low wind speeds because the potential for development is still widely ...

Performance of Savonius Rotors: A Review

ECS Transactions, 2022
With the downsizing of the energy sector in India and developing countries, the core demand of electricity power supply is adding another source of constraint to the industrial, infrastructural, and development sectors in India. With the growth of the economy that brings along hazardous degrading our ecosystem viz.

A short review on savonius rotor

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2020
The humankind implement a method of energy evolution which means replacement of conventional sources of energy by renewable sources of energy to minimise pollution. Savonius rotor a vertical axis wind rotor used in wind and hydro plant for energy conversion, but the important concern is to build higher efficiency rotor.

Performance estimation of Savonius wind and Savonius hydrokinetic turbines under identical power input

Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2018
In the context of energy crisis, extensive depletion of fossil fuel, and climate change, the vertical-axis Savonius-type wind or hydrokinetic turbines appear to be promising candidates to extract energy from wind or free-flowing water because of their superior self-starting capability and design simplicity.

Partially-blocked savonius rotor

Applied Energy, 1992
Abstract A Savonius rotor can develop a relatively high torque at a low rotational speed. It is cheap to build, but harnesses only a small fraction of the wind energy incident upon it. One proposal for augmenting the energy-harnessing effectiveness was to employ a V-shaped deflector mounted upstream of the rotor, apex into the wind, so that the air-

On the Performance of the Savonius Wind Turbine

Journal of Solar Energy Engineering, 1989
An extensive wind tunnel test program is described which assesses the relative influence of system parameters on the Savonius rotor performance. The parametric study leads to an optimum configuration with an increase in efficiency by around 100 percent compared to the reported efficiency of ≈12–15 percent.

Performance Characteristics of Vertical-Axis Off-Shore Savonius Wind and Savonius Hydrokinetic Turbines

Volume 10: Ocean Renewable Energy, 2018
The rise in energy demand, climate change and depletion of fossil fuel, encourages the researchers to find a solution to the scarcity of clean energy. Therefore, the extraction of energy from renewable energy sources has become a topic of interest in the past few decades across the globe.

Layout optimization of Savonius-turbine clusters and investigation of linear Savonius wind farms

2019
Vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) are compact, costless, less noisy and operate at low cut-in wind speed, which are promising for applications in urban environment. Their performance could be further improved by coupling with each other constructively in clusters.

On the torque mechanism of Savonius rotors

Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1992
Abstract The aerodynamic performance and the flow fields of Savonius rotors at various overlap ratios have been investigated by measuring the pressure distributions on the blades and by visualizing the flow fields in and around the rotors with and without rotation. Experiments have been performed on four rotors having two semicircular blades but with
