Efficacy of current and potential grain protectant insecticides against a fenitrothion‐resistant strain of the sawtoothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamemis L

Pesticide Science, 1987
AbstractThe responses of a highly fenitrothion‐resistant and a susceptible strain of Oryzaephilus surinamensis L. from Australia were measured against a range of alternative grain protectants using impregnated‐paper and treated‐grain assays. The R‐strain was also highly resistant to carbaryl, moderately resistant to malathion and pirimiphos‐methyl and ...

Genetic Analysis of Fenitrothion Resistance in the Sawtoothed Grain Beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Coleoptera: Cucujidae)

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1986
Insecticide assays were used to analyze the inheritance of fenitrothion resistance (145-fold) in a strain of the sawtoothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), from Australia. At the LC50, the response of the RS hybrid to fenitrothion was closer to its resistant than to its susceptible parent strain; there was no significant difference ...

Enzyme Activity in Strains of the Sawtoothed Grain Beetle (Coleoptera: Cucujidae) Differentially Resistant to Fenitrothion, Malathion, and Chlorpyrifos-Methyl

Journal of Economic Entomology, 1992
Four strains of Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.) with differing levels of resistance to malathion, fenitrothion, and chlorpyrifos-methyl were assayed for a range of enzymic systems associated with resistance. High resistance to fenitrothion was correlated with high monooxygenase activity; high resistance to chlorpyrifos-methyl was correlated with high ...

Mechanisms underlying sawtoothed grain beetle (Oryzaephilus surinamensis [L.]) (Coleoptera: Silvanidae) infestation of consumer food packaging materials.

Journal of economic entomology, 2003
The sawtoothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), is an extremely destructive pest of packaged consumer food products. The beetle is not believed to chew directly through packaging materials, but to use openings or flaws in damaged or improperly sealed packages to gain entry.

Fluidized Bed Heat Treatment for Controlling the Lesser Grain Borer (Rhyzopertha dominica) and Sawtoothed Grain Beetle (Oryzaephilus surinamensis) on Paddy cv. Khao Dawk Mali 105

Natural and Life Sciences Communications
The efficacy of fluidized bed (FDB) heating was studied for controlling stored product insects on rough rice using laboratorial heat-fluidized bed equipment, and the milling quality of rice was later examined. Rough rice cv. Khao Dawk Mali 105 (13% wb) infested with insects was treated with FDB. The lesser grain borer (Rhyzopertha dominica, Fabricius) (

Response of the Wasp Cephalonomia tarsalis (Hymenoptera: Bethylidae) to Beauveria bassiana (Hyphomycetes: Moniliales) as Free Conidia or Infection in Its Host, the Sawtoothed Grain Beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis (Coleoptera: Silvanidae)

Biological Control, 2001
Cephalonomia tarsalis, an ectoparasitoid, and Beauveria bassiana, an entomopathogenic fungus, are potential biological control agents for the sawtoothed grain beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis. Several experiments were conducted to determine whether the two beneficial organisms are compatible. Wasps exhibited little avoidance behavior toward the fungus.
