A hard carbon material distinguished by abundant nanopores, low defects, and extended curved graphite domains was synthesized in a straightforward manner using a catalytic process aided by zinc gluconate. During carbonization, trace amounts of zinc single atoms remain within the hard carbon.

ABSTRACT Cdt1 is a mixed folded protein critical for DNA replication licensing and it also has a “moonlighting” role at the kinetochore via direct binding to microtubules and the Ndc80 complex.
