A Persistent Deep Anticyclonic Vortex in the Rockall Trough Sustained by Anticyclonic Vortices Shed From the Slope Current and Wintertime Convection

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 125, Issue 10, October 2020., 2020
Abstract The presence of a persistent surface anticyclone centered at approximately 55°N, 12°W in the Rockall Trough, northeast North Atlantic, has been previously noted in satellite altimetry data. Here, we show that this surface anticyclone is the imprint of a deep, persistent, non‐stationary anticyclonic vortex.

Study on the structural forms of the key strata in the overburden of a stope during periodic weighting and the reasonable working resistance of the support

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, Volume 8, Issue 7, Page 2599-2620, July 2020., 2020
In this paper, comprehensive theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and field observation were applied to study the discrimination of the key stratum structure (KSS) during periodic weighting and the calculation method of the support load. Abstract Many mines often passively select supports with a higher yield load to avoid the occurrence of ...

Triple Solutions for Nonlinear (μ1(·), μ2(·))—Laplacian–Schrödinger–Kirchhoff Type Equations

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
In this manuscript, we study a (μ1(·), μ2(·))—Laplacian–Schrödinger–Kirchhoff equation involving a continuous positive potential that satisfies del Pino–Felmer type conditions: K1∫ℝN11/μ1z∇ψμ1z dz+∫ℝN/μ1zVzψμ1z dz−Δμ1·ψ+Vzψμ1z−2ψ+K2∫ℝN11/μ2z∇ψμ2z dz+∫ℝN/μ2zVzψμ2z dz−Δμ2·ψ+Vzψμ2z−2ψ=ξ1θ1z,ψ+ξ2θ2z,ψ inℝN, where K1 and K2 are Kirchhoff functions, Vz is a ...

Review on reliability assessment of energy storage systems

open access: yesIET Smart Grid, Volume 7, Issue 6, Page 695-715, December 2024.
As renewable energy, characterised by its intermittent nature, increasingly penetrates the conventional power grid, the role of energy storage system (ESS) in maintaining energy balance becomes paramount. The authors examine a variety of ESS technologies, highlighting their critical function in ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply.

The Discriminative Lexicon: A Unified Computational Model for the Lexicon and Lexical Processing in Comprehension and Production Grounded Not in (De)Composition but in Linear Discriminative Learning

open access: yesComplexity, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The discriminative lexicon is introduced as a mathematical and computational model of the mental lexicon. This novel theory is inspired by word and paradigm morphology but operationalizes the concept of proportional analogy using the mathematics of linear algebra.

Mechanisms of Reappeared Period Shifts of Internal Solitary Waves Based on Mooring Array Observations in the Northern South China Sea

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, Volume 129, Issue 10, October 2024.
Abstract Mooring observations have revealed that the daily reappeared time (DRt) of internal solitary waves (ISWs) in the northern South China Sea (SCS) manifests systematic shifts. This study aims to reveal the dynamic mechanisms behind this phenomenon using the theory of modulation of shear flow to the internal tide wave (IT) propagation. Approximate

Soliton Solutions of the Coupled Schrödinger‐Boussinesq Equations for Kerr Law Nonlinearity

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
In this paper, the coupled Schrödinger‐Boussinesq equations (SBE) will be solved by the sech, tanh, csch, and the modified simplest equation method (MSEM). We obtain exact solutions of the nonlinear for bright, dark, and singular 1‐soliton solution. Kerr law nonlinearity media are studied.

A Proposed Stochastic Finite Difference Approach Based on Homogenous Chaos Expansion

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, Volume 2013, Issue 1, 2013., 2013
This paper proposes a stochastic finite difference approach, based on homogenous chaos expansion (SFDHC). The said approach can handle time dependent nonlinear as well as linear systems with deterministic or stochastic initial and boundary conditions. In this approach, included stochastic parameters are modeled as second‐order stochastic processes and ...
