Yampa, a new scab-resistant potato

American Potato Journal, 1949
The Yampa potato has shown considerable promise as a scab-resistant, good-quality, high-yielding variety. It has shown field resistance to scab, early blight, and to leaf roll and mosaic. It appears best adapted to the lighter mineral soils. It has a relatively tough skin and keeps well.

Breeding for the Digenic Apple Resistance to Scab

Russian Journal of Genetics, 2002
The results of the apple breeding for digenic resistance to scab (1979–2000), which is more long-term than the monogenic breeding, have been reviewed. The hybrid seeds obtained from the reciprocal crossing between the Vf and Vm resistance gene donors served as the original material.

DEVELOPMENT OF CISGENIC APPLES WITH DURABLE RESISTANCE TO APPLE SCAB

Acta Horticulturae, 2009
Most of the apple (Malus × domestica) growers are facing serious disease problems with apple scab which is caused by the fungus Venturia inaequalis. Developing a resistant variety in apple through classical breeding is very slow and inefficient. So, we aim at improving existing apple varieties through a new concept called "cisgenesis" which saves time ...

IDENTIFICATION AND MAPPING OF A NEW APPLE SCAB RESISTANCE GENE

Acta Horticulturae, 2009
Here we report the identification of a new resistance gene (Vd3) against apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) from the apple selection 1980-015-25 of the breeding program at Plant Research International. This accession also contains the Vf gene. We mapped Vd3, using SSR and DArT markers, on linkage group 1, at a distance of 6 cM from Vf gene, but in ...

Mapping of the apple scab-resistance gene Vb

Genome, 2006
Apple scab, caused by the fungus Venturia inaequalis , is the major production constraint in temperate zones with humid springs. Normally, its control relies on frequent and regular fungicide applications. Because this control strategy has come under increasing criticism, major efforts are being directed toward the breeding of scab-resistant apple ...

Screening for Fusarium Scab Resistance in Triticale

1996
The incidence of Fusarium scab in the areas intended for triticale in Romania is relatively high. Breeding for resistance to this pathogen is the main way to reduce yield losses. All breeding materials beginning with the F4 - F5 generations are tested by artificial inoculations in the field.
