Transformation of a Bessel beam by a lens results in the formation of a “perfect” vortex beam (PVB) in the focal plane of the lens. The PVB has a single-ring cross-section and carries an orbital angular momentum (OAM) equal to the OAM of the “parent ...

Diffraction of light by a planar aperture in a metallic screen
We present a complete derivation of the formula of Smythe [Phys.Rev.72, 1066 (1947)] giving the electromagnetic field diffracted by an aperture created in a perfectly conducting plane surface.

Numerical solution of scattering problems using a Riemann--Hilbert formulation [PDF]
A fast and accurate numerical method for the solution of scalar and matrix Wiener--Hopf problems is presented. The Wiener--Hopf problems are formulated as Riemann--Hilbert problems on the real line, and a numerical approach developed for these problems ...

This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Considerations on the Diffraction Limitations to the Spatial Resolution of Optical Transition Radiation [PDF]
The interest in using optical transition radiation (OTR) in high energy (multiGeV) beam diagnostics has motivated theoretical and experimental investigations on the limitations brought by diffraction on the attainable resolution.

Coating the standard polypropylene separator with a porous red phosphorous nanosheet greatly improves cycling performance in Li electrode cells. The phosphorus‐based surface chemistry deactivates electrolyte solvent decomposition and enhances the cleavage of F‐containing salt, resulting in an inorganic‐dominated electrolyte interphase (SEI) composition

End-to-end nanophotonic inverse design for imaging and polarimetry
By codesigning a metaoptical front end in conjunction with an image-processing back end, we demonstrate noise sensitivity and compactness substantially superior to either an optics-only or a computation-only approach, illustrated by two examples ...
