A Scalar Representation of Electromagnetic Fields

Proceedings of the Physical Society. Section A, 1953
It is shown that the scalar representation of electromagnetic fields introduced in an earlier paper leads to a new model for energy transport. The energy may be considered to be carried by two mutually incoherent scalar waves, each of which arises from contributions of circularly polarized components of the same helicity.

NEUTRON STARS AND SCALAR FIELDS

International Journal of Modern Physics D, 1993
We calculate and discuss the possible consequences of the existence of light scalar particles on the properties of neutron stars. We take the mass and coupling to matter of this hypothetical scalar to be free parameters in our model and present results for a wide range of these.

Interaction of Elastic and Scalar Fields

Mathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, 1996
This paper deals with the three-dimensional problems of the interaction of an elastic field with some scalar fields. It is assumed that the elastic structure under consideration is a bounded homogeneous anisotropic body occupying the domain \(\Omega^+\subset \mathbb{R}^3\) and the physical scalar field is defined in the exterior domain \(\Omega ...

HOMOGENIZATION OF SCALAR FIELD COSMOLOGIES

The Thirteenth Marcel Grossmann Meeting, 2015
Nonlinear scalar fields have been important to model the presently observed accelerated cosmological expansion as well as the inflationary phase of the early universe. An underlying mathematical property is common to these two epochs: The presently observed universe is approximately homogeneous on sufficiently large scales and, in turn, inflation ...

Morphological Representations of Scalar Fields

2008
We consider the problem of representing and extracting morphological information from scalar fields. We focus on the analysis and comparison of algorithms for morphological representation of both 2D and 3D scalar fields. We review algorithms which compute a decomposition of the domain of a scalar field into a Morse and Morse-Smale complex and ...

Explorability of a turbulent scalar field

2017 American Control Conference (ACC), 2017
In this paper we extend the concept of explorability of noisy scalar fields to turbulent scalar fields. Since turbulent fields are prone to sporadic measurement, we use expected value of rate of measurements to estimate the rate of measurement at a location and use this estimate to define explorability of a turbulent scalar field.

Geometrization of a Massive Scalar Field

Journal of Mathematical Physics, 1971
This paper presents the necessary and sufficient conditions that a Riemannian geometry have as its source a real or complex massive scalar field.
