Five studies document the validity of a new 8-item scale designed to measure positivity, defined as the tendency to view life and experiences with a positive outlook. In the first study (N = 372), the psychometric properties of Positivity Scale (P Scale) were examined in accordance with classical test theory using a large number of college participants.

Scales, Scales and More Scales
American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis, 2002This article examines the nature, uses, and limitations of the large variety of existing, so-called, hypnosis scales; that is, instruments that have been proposed for the assessment of hypnotic behavior. Although the major aim of most of the scales ostensively seems to be to assess several aspects of hypnotic states, they are found generally to say ...

Numerical Algorithms, 2004
The authors develop an algorithm (BIN) for diagonally scale a symmetric matrix by a fast iterative binormalization technique. The convergence properties of this algorithm and the possible relation to optimal conditioning of the matrix are investigated. Analogous algorithms, for nonsymmetric and rectangular matrices are also developed. The conclusion of

A scaled teleoperation_time scaling problem
Advanced Robotics, 1993_This paper discusses a basic system which realizes scaled manipulation. Tools for scaled manipulation are necessary when we manipulate an extremely large or small size target. This type of tool has to scale size and force up or down in a bilateral way, but time scaling should also be considered in order to build up an ideal environment such that we ...

Scale is recognized as a central concept in the description of the hierarchical organization of our world. Pressing environmental and societal problems require an understanding of how processes operate at different scales, and how they can be linked across scales.

On Measurement, Scale, and Scaling
Water Resources Research, 1986The relationships between measurement, scale, and scaling are discussed and analyzed in detail. It is pointed out that only certain fundamental properties can be measured and that these properties do not include constitutive variables. The interrelationships between scale and measurement are shown to manifest themselves in two types of heterogeneity ...

A NEW SCALE FOR THE MANIC-DEPRESSIVENESS SCALE
Psychological Reports, 2003In a sample of 503 undergraduates, a newly proposed subscale for the Manic–Depressiveness Scale is more strongly associated with depression scores than with manic scores.

The relationship between pattern and process is of great interest in all natural and social sciences, and scale is an integral part of this relationship. It is now well documented that biophysical and socioeconomic patterns and processes operate on a wide range of spatial and temporal scales.
