Adaptive Scaling of Codebook Vectors

1995
In this paper we introduce a vector quantization algorithm in which the codebook vectors are extended with a scale parameter to let them represent Gaussian functions. The means of these functions are determined by a standard vector quantization algorithm; and for their scales we have derived a learning rule.

Adaptive difficulty scales for Parkour games

Journal of Visual Languages & Computing, 2014
Mobile computer games have become increasingly popular in recent years. A major factor for successful game development is the adequate control of the game's difficulty. This paper discusses justification for dynamic difficulty adaption for Parkour games.

An Adaptive Location-Scale Test

Biometrical Journal, 2001
Summary: Increasing locations are often accompanied by an increase in variability. In this case apparent heteroscedasticity can indicate that there are treatment effects and it is appropriate to consider an alternative involving differences in location as well as in scale. As a location-scale test the sum of a location and a scale test statistic can be

Scaling invariance and adaptivity

Applied Numerical Mathematics, 2001
The authors show that scaling invariance has the unique property amongst general transformations, that the properties of discretization and invariance commute. They consider the autonomous differential equation \(d\mathbf u /dt=\mathbf f (\mathbf u)\).

Scaling Diffusion Language Models via Adaptation from Autoregressive Models

International Conference on Learning Representations
Diffusion Language Models (DLMs) have emerged as a promising new paradigm for text generative modeling, potentially addressing limitations of autoregressive (AR) models.

Scale Adaptation and Ethnography

Field Methods, 2005
In this article, the author discusses his experience adapting a scale while conducting an ethnography of childbearing motivation in central Honduras. He argues that the goals of scale adaptation and ethnography overlap and that the combination of both activities improves field data collection.

A scale-adaptive DEM for multi-scale terrain analysis

International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2013
A scale-adaptive digital elevation model (S-DEM) method is proposed for multi-scale terrain analysis using a single high-resolution digital elevation model (DEM) database. The motivation is to construct a DEM that is self-adaptive to a given scale of an application, rather than letting the application fit into the built-in scale of the DEM.

Adaptation of Teacher Support Adaptivity Scale into Turkish

2023
