Investigation of Scale Effects on Linear Vertical Maneuvering Derivatives of a Submarine

open access: yesJournal of Eta Maritime Science
This paper aims to show the scale effects of vertical maneuvering derivatives for an underwater vehicle using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The model scale and full-scale benchmark DARPA suboff hull forms were used in numerical vertical planar ...

Life Cycle Savings, Bequest, and the Diminishing Impact of Scale on Growth [PDF]

open access: yes
There appears to be ample evidence that the size of population acted as a stimulus to growth in historical times; scale mattered. In the post World War II era, however, there is little evidence of such scale effects on growth.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Comparison of Second-Stage Recovery Methods for Reusable Launch Vehicles Across Vehicle Scales

open access: yesAerospace
With the cost-saving benefits of reusable launch vehicles (RLVs), South Korea is pursuing the application of reusability technologies to KSLV-III. While SpaceX currently reuses only the first stage of Falcon 9, the Starship program aims for full-stage ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Rock Mass Strength Characterisation from Field and Laboratory: A Comparative Study on Carbonate Rocks from the Larzac Plateau

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The southern edge of the Larzac carbonate plateau in Occitanie (France) is subject to various landslide processes from rock falls, toppling, and roto-translational slides to rock spreading.
